    I am eagerly anticipating updates.

If I had not relocated to Seattle, I would most certainly be within the Municipal Building right this moment.

I think it should be over right now, I also eagerly await news.

    just up at curbed:
Nouvel Brings in Big Guns for MoMA Tower Hearing
Right now—like, right now—the Landmarks Preservation Commission is holding a hearing on the transfer of air rights for architect Jean Nouvel's proposed skyscraper at 53 West 53rd Street. The local Community Board has already voted against the transfer, so to show that he means business, Jean Nouvel has sent in a Pritzker Prize-winning architect ... Jean Nouvel. That's him at the front of a packed hearing explaining why anyone who doubts him is a moron. Yes, we know it's blurry. More on this, eventually (this thing is going on forever).

I went, but had to leave after 3 hours (~ 6 PM, before the Commission voted.)

Nouvel was great. Very cool to hear him go on about his brilliant building.

Also good to have friends in high places: David Childs was there for a couple of hours waiting to give testimoy. He spoke in favor.

Those from the community griped about the "burden" of the tower, and how that "burden" outweighed any benefit, either to the rest of NYC (all of us who would get a brilliant new building) or to either St. Thomas Church or The University Club (both of which stand to be restored, using the proceeds from the sale of their unused air rights to the Nouvel plan developers).

I submitted written comments in favor of the plan.

I see that a commentor over at curbed left a comment @ 7:10 PM stating:

I came back from the hearing. It was turn down. They need to built something much smaller, like size of the MOMA next door.
I pray that ^ is just some idiot making a joke.

Lofter, how much was spoken in favour of the building, anyone who might have been from WNY?

By the time I left only Childs had spoken in favor.

But there had only been 4 speakers at that time.

Two testified in opposition (CB Mendes guy and a Liz Kreuger stand in). They both got applause from a contingent at the back of the room.

Scott Stringer's stand in testified that Stringer is ".... looking for additional info regarding land use and zoning but that is an issue for City Planning not LPC" or some similar political BS -- essentially saying "I'm-not-taking-a-real-stand".

They let the politicians / big wigs speak before the citizens.

Hopefully one David Childs = 10 "community" whiners

Only one person from WNY attended the hearing? I was hoping for a much better turn out.

Well, to be honest, I doubt it would have made a difference if 100 forum members showed up. One way or the other, I suspect the decision was made prior to the hearing.

don't be mislead by the apparent number of supporters presenting/attending one way or the other - often the commission decision doesn't align with the showing
