Took some practice looking up last week in hope and anticipation of watching this one rise...

    6th Ave view
    __

Rising just off 6th Avenue to fill a "void"...

    __

    __

Sharp constrast to the 6th Ave giants...

    BUILD IT!!

The textural qualities of the exostructure alone will fit right in here.

This is an earlier version with sheer walls and a less elegant structure, but the effect is undeniable

    BREATHTAKING!!

This is probably the same version from different sides. But I may be wrong.

An incredible feat of engineering and architecture.

Do they have any pictures of the watered down version?

I'm glad that's the only drawing. Wow, I thought it was the bigger building in that diagram. That little turquois thing?!? Really?!?!? That must be Moma's way of saying, "F you for shooting down our landmark!"

By reading the text one would discover that the blue building came first.

Sent a letter in. So should anyone else who can -- and I'm sure it's better late than never. The address is:

New York City Department of City Planning
    Spector Hall
22 Reade Street, New York, New York, 10007

    Referencing 53 West 53rd St.

It also came before adding the air rights. A taller tower can now be built - the spired version needs approval to utilize all of the air rights.

HINES + NOUVEL = MORE MOMA
Will Nouvel's new 54th Street tower tower over Cesar Pelli's 1985 Museum Tower behind it on West 53rd?

After a fierce and very hush-hush competition among five world-leading architects, France's Jean Nouvel has been chosen to design a new 60-plus story tower in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

MoMA's press office referred calls to Hines, where a spokeswoman said that it was "too early" to say anything. But sources familiar with the design competition and the project confirmed the selection of Nouvel. Whitehall also declined to comment.

Nouvel has been selected over submissions by Diller Scofidio + Renfro; Morphosis; Reiser and Umamoto; and Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners. Any one of these architects would doubtless have added something striking to the city's skyline, which is quickly developing nodes of exciting new residential architecture.
    One of the competitors...

Diller + Scofidio should give Hollywood a try. Designs better suited for Science Fiction films.

Libeskind seems to be influenced by this D+S proposal. (Of course the practices are both mostly 'paper' anyway.)
