Something really old school about those shots. Maybe its that unmistakable New York late afternoon light, or the empty lots everywhere. Ahh... the memories. Nice shots!

This big sucker ^ was right in the way of fireworks viewing over in far West Chelsea. But all the glass did make for some nice reflections of the exploding colors

Two blocks down on West 28th it looks like the big Avalon project is back on track. And ART+ (mid-block between Tenth / Eleventh facing both W 27 <> W 28) is nearly topped out on the 28th Street side.

A couple other projects at this north end of the High Line area are about to go, too.

    Lofter,

What other projects are about to go and where are they located?

This building needs to be surrounded and dwarfed.

There is a big Avalon project planned for the block to the south which would hem it in, but that's now on hold.

The Related plan for Hudson Yards will build up big directly to the north across W 30th Street. But it seems they've provided a viewing slot(s) for this one (it's not shown in the image below, but it stands opposite the tall dark brown box at center and the eastern portion of the two-towered yellowish building to its left):

Thanks, Lofter. What's the address for the Avalon project? Since the economy is rebounding, that should get built within the next two years. The Hudson Yards, however, probably won't get built for 20 years. It will probably be one of the NY projects, like the NY Coliseum site and the PA Bus Terminal Tower, that goes through several economic cycles before it's built.

I've always wished that the PA sold the air rights from the Yards and built a park there instead. It doesn't even make sense to build towers on the Yards site or on Brookfield's site at the moment when there are so many huge parking lots in the area (like the 2 between 11th and 12th just south of the Yards -- among others) on which construction could proceed much easier.

You'll find all the info HERE -- it's called the Avalon West Chelsea.

One address is 282-298 Eleventh Avenue, but it also runs for miles along the north side of West 28th.

The Avalon, like all other Avalons, will make this 316 tower look like a beauty in contrast.

You guys should hope the Avalon does not rises.

Let's just say I'm not looking forward to it -- and won't shed a tear if it doesn't come to pass.

What Avalons exist in Manhattan other than the one on Bowery and Houston? While that's lame (this is NY after all, so what can we expect?), it's better than the filthy lot and autoshops currently on this site.

There's a couple of them actually at the Houston and Bowery location. They're across the street from each other.

The other one in Manhattan is on St. John's church property in Morningside Heights. Thread here.

By the way, just because the current site is not great does not mean you should take whatever you can get.

There are other better developers (almost all except for Sam Chang, are better than the uber-cheap, uber-bad taste, Avalon Bay Company) that can always acquire it and develop it.

They make Related look like Hines.
