    1041 is still there.

The glass building just to the west, the Springs Mills Building at 104 West 40th (a/k/a 104 to 106 West 40th Street and 107 to 115 West 39th Street -- Architect: Harrison & Abramovitz; 1962), was just designated as a Landmark.

    Thanks, Lofter.

I recall that. I could not comprehend that that lame building was protected and yet many early 20th century gems are not.

Nonetheless, the POS fronting 6th is still not protected, correct?

Not protected -- and it's a goner (maybe they just need to pay some contractors to keep it coming down ).

Lofter is referring to a side street building; that whole Sixth Avenue frontage looks to be part of an assemblage.

    Thanks, Lofter and ASchwartz.

It's my understanding that all of this crap is coming down. Has netting gone up on the crappy little buildings on the corner?

For 1041 Sixth DOB shows for the DEMOLITION Application (filed 1/25/2008):

    PERMIT ISSUED - ENTIRE JOB/WORK 11/16/2009

Maybe that means the stall here is over.

That stretch is getting a serious 'upgrade' and I use that word liberally.

    Tectonic,

Have you seen what's being built?

No i haven't but 6th between 23rd and 42nd changed quite a bit in the last ten years.

I agree. The whole stretch of Midtown south of 42nd Street has improved dramatically in recent years.

How big can they realistically build here on these three combined lots?

No doubt the Springs Mills Building just to the west (now landmarked) has lots of unused FAR / Air Rights. And being on the Avenue the allowance there would be for a good amount of available FAR. Put those together ...

Lofter, are they able to transfer all of the square footage from the landmarked building to this site or just the unused air rights from that building?

Are you serious? How can you use used (already built) air rights?

Have you been smoking something funny lately?
