Not bad. It sure is a whole lot better than the most recent project to go up in the immediate vicinity south of Bryant Park -- the atrocious Residence Inn at, 6th and ~39th.

It is utterly amazing how this immediate area has changed. Before BofA rose, this area was an utter POS, and now with this tower and with the flea market lots on 42nd being developed, it's really nice.

New Building permit filed. 29 stories, 441 feet. A bit taller than the Marriott just south of this. This project's design and scope is somewhat analogous to 505 Fifth Avenue on the opposite corner of the park.

I wonder if they'll build on spec.

Don't know, but this is shaping up to be a nice building. Hines seems to be making quite the push in NYC between this and 56 Leonard.

I agree with you. This area used to be a dump until BofA came along. It's really nice now. I'd just love to see 42nd St. closed to traffic, the sidewalks widened and graced with trees and the street cars implemented, as per the Vision 42 plan.

Its glossy but honestly I'm not a fan - it looks like it could've been proposed in 1983.

It could have been a lousy, plain box. I'm not complaining. I'm worried about the hideous POS that Poon may design next to the Knickerbocker Hotel.

The night lighting looks kind of interesting, accentuating the major point of interest.

I wonder if this will be like the former HSBC building and appear as a bland box from the south.

The yellow dot is where the tower will rise in the skyline. It won't be much taller than the Bryant Park Hotel behind it.

Good news. It will block that hotel that we love to hate.

My blurb on the newest permits!

    http://newyorkyimby.blogspot.com/201...e-will-be.html

Confirm building will be 29 stories, 441' tall.

Aaaaaaaaaand I see Derek found these a while ago above! Regardless, there have been several permits applied for recently, which leads me to believe this should be rising soon. I would like it if the project was larger, but as filler, it isn't bad.

A Curvy, shiny, dynamic shape - nice looking building. With Hines & Pei on the team this is sure to turn out just fine. Good write-up on the building at the YIMBY blog: keeps it sweet and simple KISS.
