    Default Georgica - 305 East 85th Street @ Second Avenue - by Cetra/Ruddy

I noticed some formworks going up here this weekend, so I did a little research and found out it will be a condo called the Georgica.

    Here's the website: http://www.georgicalife.com/

    a rendering:

the building is going up in a L-shape around an existing walk-up

Update: Things Going Swimmingly At Georgica Condo

A few months back, I highlighted Georgica Condo up on 85th Street and Second Avenue, the condo with a kitchen that, in my book, is up for my "Kitchen Of The Year" prize. Well, a few months on, it's fair to say that things are proceeding swimmingly for the condo with a beach name. I spoke with Rob Kaliner, the president of Ascend Group this morning, and the developer is "very happy" with the way that things are going so far. The building is already better than 30% sold, and he expects that after the traditionally slow summer season, the fall "will be a whole new ballgame". While summer traffic is never fantastic, Mr. Kaliner is happy with the quality of buyer who is coming to Georgica Condo (when they are not on Georgica Beach).
I passed by the building this morning and it is certainly moving along. Twelve stories and counting. Oh, and the double cantilever- hot!

Yeah, I passed by this site a few weeks ago and was surprised to see a development we hadn't heard about yet. For whatever reason, I have a feeling there are more than a couple smaller developments like this on the Upper East Side that are getting no coverage. I think there's also one on 88th & Park.

CurbedWire: Long Island Invasion, Georgica a Tight Squeeze

UPPER EAST SIDE—What's new at the crazy cantilevering bit of glassy madness known as East 85th Street's Georgica? Says a tipster of the under-construction building: "She reminds me of a woman I dated who loved to dress in size 6 outfits, but was a size 8." Okey dokey. He sent along a visual aid. ^In context, that's an especially bland street facade.

I think the wrap around takes some getting use to for most of us but if it means not razing that corner walkup, I'm all for it.

As it is, I'm glad they saved that walkup and built around it. The walkup (also the best looking one on the block) looks to be in pristine condition and appears to have given up its air rights so it'll be safe.

They could have used better quality glass but there's no blank walls so overall, I'm happy with how this project's turned out.

There's more elegant ways of doing it.

For one, don't highlight the tumors in white.
