I'm planning on moving to NY, but I haven't sorted out the major details yet. I'm an education major, so I was wondering would a Teachers salary be enough to live decently in NY? I have heard that being a school teacher in some parts of NY is not safe, is there any recommendations on elementary schools that offer a pretty good working enviroment? What are good neighborhoods, that reasonable, affordable, and safe on a teachers salary???? I've been doing a lot of research, but haven't really got any answers, I just want to find a safe affordable city. please help. Thanks...

oh, I will be completely on my own when I move, because I do not know any one there. Is the stereotype that New Yorkers are not very friendly true? I am from Texas, and I am a christian so I am also wondering if there are really good churches as well.... pleeeease help me.
