    Okay. I'm going to post this quite interesting press report published by the engineer Salvador García-Ayllón in the journal of the College of Engineers of Murcia. I guess it explains the topic quite correct and is a good way to approach the subject from the historical point of view.

    The architect José Luis Fernández del Amo designed several projects in the city that are well known. Apart from Princesa Residential Complex (1975), would emphasize the following: Conservatory of Music (1985), former Faculty of Economics and Business (1955), Los Rosales neighborhood in El Palmar (on the 70's) and Elders Residence in Puente Tocinos (built in 1973 and demolished in 2001 because of structural problems).

    Yes, why not... Where must I sign?

    It seems that in the video the design of the towers has changed. The entry and the top is different, at least.

    Well, I am waiting news in the matter!

    The Rationalist architect José Luis Fernández del Amo designed three buildings in Dehesa de Campoamor urbanization on the 70's: the nautic club (1973), a supermarket (1975) and a residential building (1976). The most interesting could be the supermarket, because it's maybe one of the works built designed by him where are explicitly advertised many of the features that will characterize the commercial architecture in Spain in the last 40 years. I think the Campoamor's supermarket is a 'little masterpiece' for the Rationalist architecture in Spain.

    * * * * *
    NOTE (SPA): Cuando este supermercado se construyó en 1975, en España no existían este tipo de construcciones apenas. España era un país lleno de tiendas de ultramarinos de barrio,... donde los centros comerciales era algo por descubrir y explorar social y comercialmente.

    Este edificio adelanta netamente muchas de las rasgos que luego nos van a ser comunes en el diseño de los actuales centros comerciales: se separa la puerta de entrada y salida; se crea un hall diferenciado para la zona de las cajas registradoras; se saca fuera del centro comercial el estanco y la zona de venta de prensa; se distribuye y especializa el espacio interior, separando la zona de venta de alimentación del resto de productos; se crean espacios jerarquizados en niveles para facilitar la lectura interior del centro comercial al cliente que accede por primera vez; se dota al centro de un sistema de acceso por rampas en sus distintos niveles, al objeto de favorecer el uso de carros metálicos de compra por los clientes; se dota al centro de iluminación cenital en la cubierta mediante el uso de lucernarios ; se utiliza un sistema tubular de acero para soportar la techumbre; se construye un hangar de servicio y almacen subterráneo para la carga y descarga del centro comercial; se dota al edificio de una línea de diseño exterior propia, en donde el juego de formas, volúmenes y colores hace el edificio atractivo al cliente; se dota al centro comercial de una marquesina delantera que sirve de resguardo y de lugar de encuentro entre clientes; se equipa el centro de sistema de climatización; etc...

    Muchas de estas cosas hoy las damos por supuestas en un centro comercial moderno, pero en 1975 eran una revolución conceptual observarlas todas juntas en un mismo edificio. Más tarde se construyeron cientos de supermercados como éste por todo el país, sin embargo, cuando se visita por primera vez este edificio observas la magia y la genialidad del arquitecto que lo diseñó por todos sus rincones y te das cuenta rápidamente de que hay personas que ven el futuro por delante de los demás. Esa es la grandeza de un arquitecto, como Fernández del Amo, que no copiaba nada de nadie:... simplemente crea lo que su mente preclara le hace ver que será el futuro... y no se equivocó en casi nada !.

    The project is not stopped. There may be surprises in the coming months, because there may be an investor interested in developing it.

    It is true what you say about the evolution of project design. The entrance and the top are modified, also the northern facade of the towers, ... where now you can see the elevator shafts and stairs of the towers.

    ------------
    NOTE (SPA): El proyecto de interiorismo del complejo también se hizo en 2007 y está cabado. El coste final del proyecto andaría por unos entre 120-130 millones de euros. Crucemos los dedos a ver si hay suerte... jeje.

    No dejes de ver el vídeo que deje en el link de los créditos del post. La programación conceptual del espacio está cambiada respecto al proyecto inicial y podrás observar como la torres ahora están reubicadas de forma diferente en la parcela. Esta propuesta es mucho más interesante que la que hasta ahora se conocía del proyecto, porque introduce elementos nuevos en el diseño global de las torres y del espacio objeto de desarrollo. Es interesante comprobar, además, cómo se elimina el lobby conjunto que tenían las torres y se crea un acceso común a los niveles subterráneos con una gran rampa circular. Otra de las cosas que más se ha modificado en el proyecto actual, por referencia a la versión inicial, es que ahora todas las fachadas (excepción de las norte de ambas torres que alojan las cajas de ascensores y escaleras) tienen diseños prismáticos, no como en los renders iniciales, donde sólo sucedía en las fachadas interiores que se miraban entre sí de las 2 torres. Es un proyecto netamente mejor que el inicial, sin lugar a dudas...

    You said last day that the Palace of Conde de Roche had been refurbished in the late nineteen century. Do you know who was the author of the reform on the building ?

    Actually what you said about Campoamor supermarket is true, but I think some of these features were alredy present in other shopping centers that were of greater scale, as the El Corte Ingles department stores.

    It's true ... but we are talking about a different urban scale. In the 70's there were very few residential developments to spend the summer in Spain. It was a new urban residential concept, therefore, everything should be designed based on new architectural criterias . This commercial unit is somewhere between the corner stores and the department stores models on the 70's.

    Thanks for the info and pics on the José Luis Fernández del Amo topic.
    It was restored in Eclectic style by architect Justo Millán on the late nineteen century, as you explain in your post.
