Oh goody. Another setback from the street wall.
What is with these setbacks? If this is the fault of zoning laws, why doesn't the city WAKE UP and do something about it?
Present-day NYC is getting overwhelmed with some of the worst architecture going up anywhere in the world.
I just threw up in my mouth.
Seriously, if there's 1 thing the city can do it's to prevent so much sh*titecture from ruining New York. Where are the city pols when the likes of Gene Kaufman/Sam Chang, Joe Sitt and others are destroying entire neighborhoods - first and foremost the Garment District but impacting huge amounts of Midtown, the Financial District, Chinatown, the UES ... pretty much everything but West Chelsea.
Why not just extend that tumor to the roof line. If you are going to suck at least go all the way!
1.) Average people don't mind these buildings.
2.) As they are hotels, each and every one of them brings real money into the city. People staying in these hotels aren't cooking their own meals, or driving their own cars, or really doing anything but pumping NYC with cash.
3.) If you've been anywhere else in the US, you'll realize that there needs to be very little essence of what makes something great for people to be perfectly happy with it. Where I am in Boulder is effectively one giant hole-in-the-earth suburb with air so bad you can barely see the mountains from 10 miles away, but by god they're there, and it's Colorado, so this is the best place on earth, and people love it. the apparatus to support the lifestyle (highways, parking lots, smog, etc) are easily ignored when the reason for being here is the natural beauty that so clearly exists. That is to say, as long as MoMa, and the ESB, and Chrysler Building (which normal people can't tell apart), and central park, and shopping on 5th ave are still in NYC, then the people will keep pouring in.
This isn't that bad in person. Sure it would be nice if everything was Torre Verre quality, but that's not happening. I hope that Extell and SLG are planning something nice on the northeast section of this stretch.
