Thread: Cooper Square area construction

  1. #1

    Default Cooper Square area construction

I remember reading a month or two ago an article about several buildings going up (or being converted) in the Cooper Square/Astor Place area. I'm not sure if they were all residential, dorms, office, or what. Does anyone have any information on them?

Specifically, I was wandering around and noticed construction at

    - 6th and Cooper Square
    - 10th and 3rd

    Thank you,
    -H

Developments below St. Marks Place are covered fairly widely here:

    New development on the Bowery

The one at 10th Street has generated barely a comment.

anyone know if there are any plans for that parking lot in the foreground of the above picture? been wondering about that one for a while. (and yeah, i know i should look it up on the dob site myself, but i can never remember what the cross-street is.)

This area (Bowery to Lafayette / Houston to E 8th Street) is getting some very nice designs. It is one of the more interesting neighborhoods to wander around. Approvals and construction seem to move along rather quietly.

Thanks. The design is passable. Not fantastic, but it fits in with the general architectural vibe of the area, including new additions like the Bowery Hotel. I hope they won't use cheap pre-fab cladding for the facade.

Is anything planned for the empty lot on the n.w. corner of Bond and LaFayette?

There's an auto repair garage on the NW corner.

There's an empty lot on the NE corner, but it's a sliver - a really thin slice, like 15 ft.

I hope that it's redeveloped. This area is becoming REALLY beautiful and that lot/garage tarnishes it.

A plan for the NW corner of Bond / Lafayette (8-12 Bond) is described HERE and can be seen below.

Some discussion on this one starts HERE (with some history of the area).

A separate plan that resembled stacked container units for the SW corner of Great Jones / Lafayette (the northern sliver of the above-mentioned blockfront) can be found HERE -- and viewed below ...

This thread -- Farewell, Gasoline Alley; the changing face of Noho -- covers the same block, but mainly on the east side of Lafayette.

[btw: what ever happened to billyblanco?]

I saw a crew doing some drill tests along the sidewalk in the middle of that block back at the end of March ...

DOB shows that a New Building Application for 10 - 12 Bond Street (aka 358 - 364 Lafayette) was Disapproved in October 2006 -- no action since then.

DOB shows that the most recent New Building Application for 11 Great Jones Street (aka 366 - 372 Lafayette) was Disapproved on June 11, 2007.

    Thanks for the info, amigo.

It seems that the horrible garage's time is limited.

Maybe that's the answer to getting rid of cars in Manhattan ...

Clear out all the gas stations / repair shops and downtown car owners will just throw in the towel.

That will be a start, anyway.
