So what IS New York's current tallest blank lot wall?
It looks like there will be windows above the setback. From the numbers, it looks like 237 will actually go up to the setback, so they may very well have done just what you're looking for. Not sure where the views will start due to 250 w 55th, though.
So what IS New York's current tallest blank lot wall?
Believe it or not, I think Home Insurance Plaza (99 William St) has the tallest blank wall at 630 feet right now. The Extell walls on 45th street will beat this by a couple feet when done. I'll have to think some if there are any blank walls taller than this, but there just aren't TOO many buildings taller than this period, and they're usually free standing.
Don't know about tallest but Sky House's is pretty atrocious:

don't forget 500 fifth ave
pretty nice as far as blank walls go
Yes. It looks like a design element.
Sorry, I thought we were only going for crappy blank walls (and the tallest!). There are some nice ones, like Walker Tower.
For all blank walls or near-blank walls, it seems that this one will be up there with Home Insurance Plaza, 500 Fifth Avenue, and Sky House. I browsed through the skyscraper list and think these four are easily the tallest in the city.
Hmm, what about the WORLD's tallest blank wall? As far as I know, most cities around the world that have 800+ footers situate these towers in a more freestanding manner, whether through parking lots, plazas, podiums, etc, so New York ust might take the cake, but then again, who knows. Something tells me Hong Kong can give New York's blank walls a run for their money.
There must be some somewhere. Incidentally, the east wall of Century 21 on Church, while not as tall as some of this, is exceedingly large and blank. Also, the long lines building has a 550' blank wall. 500 Fifth is 697 ft, so that tops these. This building, even if there are not windows, won't have as big of a blank wall because of how much of it is covered by the two buildings abutting it.
Incidentally, found this great link while doing a little research: http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...pg=4872,588206
From a quick scan of the Montreal skyline, there are a few tall blank walls in there.
This one is looking TALL and SLIM! It is 12 floors higher than that picture I took and posted 35 days ago (scroll up)!

Tall & slim indeed!
The blank wall is already halfway covered by 237 West 54th, btw.
The building topped out on Wednesday, August 22. They should have the rest of the glass up before the snow flies, so like 250 West 55th Street, they will be doing all internal work during the winter. Both building will open in 2013, instead of 2014.
