That black building with the gold trip at the top sure is classy.

That building is on the corner of Argyll Street and Great Marlborough Street. Argyll Street runs parallel to Regent Street


While that building is nice and with its own distinct merits, it's directly opposite some amazing competition: the Liberty department store which has an interior design akin to a home - designed so that people felt comfortable spending longer periods of time browsing and buying!



Random fact: the timbers used in the construction of Liberty were sourced from two decommissioned warships: HMS Impregnable & HMS Hindustan.

It is a true art to confuse people of the age of a building. The best example possibly on the planet that is testament to that feat is the Palace of Westminster. Although some parts of that building do date back to 1066.

The style of Liberty is that of mock-Tudor/Tudor Revival and found predominantly across the UK. Buildings (mainly residential homes) are still built in the (although in a less lavish) style, although to varying levels of success.

In the town I reside, there are several dozen original Tudor properties. One such property has parts dating back to 1360 (pre-Tudor) with 'modern' Tudor alterations made in 1545. Amazingly it is also home to a family business that has been trading for over 400 years (26th oldest in the world apparently as well).

I'm not certain exactly, but because of the nature of businesses still existing over several generations is unlikely (economic problems, internal politics, family breakdowns, takeovers, etc...), such companies are probably easier to pick out from company registers.

More in-depth work would probably verify the origin and age of the businesses.
