Curbed did a piece on this site at 19 Park Place about one year ago: LINK

The site has been dead for months and nothing new at DOB since April.

Leyva has another dead project at 15 Renwick Street; work there stalled months ago and it's now a filth strewn lot.

Maybe we should start calling him The Grim Reaper

An inactive site isn't a "dead project".

Conventional financing is unavailable for anyone and anything, so the only projects that have broken ground in recent months are "special" projects with different modes of financing.

Due to some of the crap he's designed, I prefer to call him the Putz.

Call it what you want, but those sites have no signs of life -- unlike some other projects in the near vicinity of each that have recently been issued new permits and are far more likely to get started.

Leyva's stuff, even when built, looks deadly. IMHO: A flashy hack.

I agree with you, Lofter. His buildings look absolutely idiotic.

Many things are sad about this project. Firstly, Leyva's buildings are usually moronic looking and use low-quality materials. Secondly, the filthy, little POS to the east apparently will remain. This is problematic because: (i) In and of itself, it's a rank, little eyesore; and (ii) a concrete wall like the hideous one on 785 8th will be visible. NY is quite sad.

It's only a matter of time before the building next to this is replaced in the same way. That said, the ugly building is that green thing around the corner going up that's now 3 stories high or so.

    Care of curbed (279 Broadway):

Fiterman is, all things considered, relatively innocuous as far as I can tell. The new building is a little boring, and a little brick-y, but really, nothing too offensive. It would have been neat to see something much taller on the site, but who knows where the air rights would have come from.

NYC really needs a board that ensures projects meet a certain aesthetic minimum. It's a crime that this green monster will be situated between two beauties.

At the very least, the cheap wang building it could have made it brick.

    Thumbs down

    Oh, that green monster

Look at the F'ing base. No substance. Looks like it's hanging in air. No relation to the ground. And once they put up the big bank & drug store signs in the windows it will be even more obnoxious.

    What's good about it?

(and don't even get me started on the stupid balconies.)

The wang who's developing it should stay in Chicago and spread his fetid feces on their streets.

Hey! Back from the dead (this project, not me). New construction fences, and the site is cleared. Looks like new permits hung all over the place as well. DOB has been renewed and should be all systems go.

    Roldan,

Do you know if they acquired the dumpy little building on the east side of this site?
