Thread: Apple tablet

    Default Apple tablet

Shortly Apple computers will announce their plans for a tablet. Anyone else excited?

I'm wondering about what it will be able to do and the cost.

Yes, I'm curious to see it and how much it's going to cost. I've been holding off buying a new laptop and I'm wondering if this would be an acceptable substitute instead. I wonder if it could run software like a regular computer or if it's just "apps" like a glorified iPhone.

Supposedly the announcement will come out at 1pm.

I just read it will run on the iPhone operating system so no real applications like PS apparently. Boo. Why would I spend more than 500 bucks for something that can't work like an actual laptop? It sounds half assed. Pretty, but useless for anything besides looking at stuff.

The crazy thing is that this could literally be anything - even *gasp* not a tablet. Or something that will land in the market with a thud.

Apple sure is good at the fine art and science of working techies into a frothy tizzy over their releases...

I couldn't care less about this. It may not even be a tablet. If it is what is rumoured it just sounds like a Kindle/ iPhone combo. Which is a pointless piece of technology. However, the apple whores will buy it.

Maybe it is Apple who is the whore? But what does that make the fanatics?

It looks neat so far, but wish they came up with a better name than 'iPad.'

There is nothing its introduction could significantly do to effect the technological community at this point. Not for something that is simply a touch screen clipboard.

I think the idea is something that needs to be explored, but I did not see the introduction of a working model doing much more than what it is doing now, cause speculation and a bunch of people posting about it on a BBS/Forum.

The only thing that would be encouraging about it is the possibility that our hardware is starting to catch up to our applications. That we can start making smaller machines that will still run Auto-cad, 3Dmax and Photoshop. That the processors are strong and small enough to handle complex gestural command sequences without lag, and that things that we have had to think about before, such as network connection and security, become background noise rather than a foreground headache.

We will see what happens. But as usual in the tech community, whoever runs out and buys one right away is not doing it because they need it. they are doing it because they want to be first.

Oh, it's that kind of tablet. I thought it was free meds for anxiety attacks from waiting on long lines.

IPad - sounds like some sort of feminine hygiene product.

The Fanboys are going to get me for this.

I think AppleTab would have sounded better.

    Tapple?

    AppTab?

    AT?

Or just the iT rather than trying to make it too kitchy...

All the important things for a computer.

    Music and Movies!!!

Maybe they should have made it like the protected clipboards? With a flip-over metal (aluminum) cover?

It actually looks like the TOTL Harmony Remote (touch screen I believe).
