You mean the huge, old, should-be-landmarked IRT Powerhouse? Built by one of the architects of the firm responsible for the construction of the original Penn Station? In it's current form it's used by Con Edison to supply steam to the city. I'd rather see it landmarked and taken better care of, thank you very much, maybe even perhaps gut the interior and turn it into retail, but not demolished. People can leave the Durst building and walk two blocks.

I got this notice today for weekend work:

Install plumbing and ductwork on the 1st floor south. Install rebar on the 9th floor deck. Frame 9th floor deck. Install duct risers on floors 4 and 5.
On the first floor, piping and HVAC stuff is going up quickly.

I am going through my 'subscribed thread' listings and this is now the top of my list for most exciting and architecturally significant projects currently under construction in Manhattan right. A big Thanks to Tectonic, C.Construction for those recent site photos - made my visits here today very worthwhile.

I think the 'as-built' final result of this project will have at least some resemblance to the architectural renderings we have been seeing here on this tread, as well as NewYorkYimby and Curbed: the 'false advertising' of renderings is always a BIG disappointment. BIG pun intended - http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showth...l=1#post343601

Also, take the big.dk tour - the virtual tour of the project is fantastic. http://www.big.dk/#projects

And do 'subscribe' - I always check "new posts to subscribed threads" : that is a great feature to check out in WNY forum.

Pretty much exactly this. Drove by a couple of days ago and nearly rear ended someone as I tried to get a good rubber neck into the guts of this building. It is a remarkable structure.

Now that Manhattan Mini storage is gone, you can really see the building taking shape from 11th Ave.

I walked around this the other day: Humongous! But far more interesting than almost anything else in town that's rising now.
