A skyscraper is planned for the corner of 42nd and 9th but there isn't one there yet. A little east of that corner is the Orion.

Thank you very match! The Orion is a great "Box"... Why are the corners of the building are made in the form of a right angle? This increases the wind load. And a few square sections only create the concentration of wind load in the corners. Is the information on the maximum permissible deviation of structure from the vertical contained in the U.S. regulations for construction? Or the maximum permissible acceleration of wind load?

Diamond, now I'm wondering about the answers to your questions! If you're asking about the Orion, it is a concrete building, so bracing is a different issue, right? Pictures of the construction are here: http://wirednewyork.com/real_estate/orion/orion-condo/

I don't know where the thread is for the site at the SW corner of Ninth & West 52nd, but ...

The plot is now cleared, and is just a flat swath of dirt.

All that remains along Ninth between W 41 + W 42 are the yellow tented market and the pizza eat out counter.

But will be a rather ugly hotel in no time!

Yeah it looks pretty horrible. It looks like this is being funded via EB-5 visas issued to PRC folks.

Good for veggies and good for blank walls!

One more slab to block the Zebra. I'm all for it.

The veggie stand has nothing to do with the neighboring bad design or blank walls...
and does so much more for the street scape, and helping make this area livable, than that POS hotel ever will.

Are we sure that the tents aren't a shanty town put up by the developers? This is one awful heap.
