Oh, anyone can do that. I was hoping for a "Zippy original" work of art.

How the heck is the word triangle (no quotes) going to return "all of most of the database"?![]()
Yeah, I know, put it in quotes but, in this case at least, what's the difference? IIRC, previous versions of vBulletin didn't require quotes and there weren't these unhelpful error messages.

Umm, I don't think so.
Entering triangle shirtwaist without quotes produces results. Go figure.
It would be nice to be able to add tags to posts as well as threads.
Note to self: Next time, don't forget that posts about the Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire are under the Fires of New York City thread.
When I searched keyword TRIANGLE (search entire posts), I got 8 pages of results in both Single Content and Multiple Content tabs.
When I searched keyword TRIANGLE (search titles only), I got 2 results, neither the desired subject.
When I searched TRIANGLE FIRE, I got 2 pages of results in both tabs, although in a different order.
When I searched "TRIANGLE FIRE" I got 4 results, one of which was the Fires of New York thread.
Seems to be working OK for me.
I don't search the above format except with tags.
Set up a Google search page with this in the search box: site:wirednewyork.com/forum
Make it a button on your browser toolbar.
When you click it, the format text will already be displayed in the search box. Just type in the keywords.
It's useful in that the results will be displayed as links to the actual posts, not just the threads. "TRIANGLE SHIRTWAIST" displayed not only the Fires of New York thread, but New York City Books - Page 6. Mouse-over the >>, and you get a preview of the page
Still no wired icon, this forum has been a generic V for over a month now. Not cool
Thanks, Zippy. There is always more than one way to achieve something in the Land of IT! Need to learn up on Google's search operators.
I'm getting different results for triangle today!
Never mind...I can now search the WNY forum in Google using a button on my Google toolbar (alongside the one I created ages ago for the WNY search page, which may just get unceremoniously removed now!).
Do you use Bing at all? If so, how do you think it compares to Google?
I've just started using it at the (new) office with IE9. Not sure who copied what from whom!
Too lazy.
I didn't use it long enough to make any comparison; I think the more you use a particular search engine, the better you get at finding what you want.
There are lots of comparisons for the top three.
So your workplace finally emerged from the Browser Stone Age?I've just started using it at the (new) office with IE9.
^ LOL! The office I was working in (client's office) upgraded last year from IE6 (yeah, you read right!) to IE9 (along with Windows 7/Office 2007 from XP/Office 97-2003. Don't know why they didn't just go straight to Office 2010).
The office I'm working in now (my company's head office) has been a bit more up-to-date for a while, with Windows 7/Office 2010/IE9. They've just set Bing as the default search engine instead of Google like at the other office.

It's too bad most of you can't see the spam posts that get filtered out, like the one from India your LOL was pointing to. Some are unintentionally hilarious in their attempt to "blend in."
Missed it by THAT much...
For everyone's information, regarding the Google toolbar in Firefox 11, I inadvertently clicked (apparently) on something in add-ons and I lost it yesterday...
...however...I found this:
http://www.itsabhik.com/tech/how-to-...-11-12-13.html
which works a treat.
I lost the toolbar too.
Firefox 11 screwed up Tab Utilities, but when I fixed that by using Tab Mix Plus, I knocked out the toolbar.
I disremembered [where have I heard that before?] how I fixed it in the first place, and had to think about it awhile.
The checkerboard is back!![]()
