Well, the building was closed off for 10 years and they've only just finished deconstruction. I can see why 9/11 material would be found at the site.

Is that where the treasure was stashed?

Or are they tunneling under Liberty Street?

The hole in the top left is the VSC connection into the Memorial sub levels. It is a labyrinth of rooms and corridors under there, much of it housing huge pumping systems for the pools and irrigation for the plaza above. I happened to be in there just this morning, immediately behind the slurry wall are the PATH tracks (part of the turn around loop).

Was that a pre-existing opening or has it been newly cut through?

There were vehicle access ramps in the center of Liberty St, but those were north of the WTC bathtub wall. Most of Liberty St was built on top of the bathtub.

Yeah, it's not entirely obvious, but the original WTC bathtub is right on the other side of this new tub.
Best photo I could find showing the old Liberty Street compared to the WTC substructure.

Though, you can make out liberty on this, and compare it to the new WTC structure.

Awesome feature. Seeing 90 West in 1928! Crazy to think that all the work we are doing down there today is likely to be ripped out in 50 years or so.

Construction of the VSC’s footings areunderway in the western portion of the site with structural steelunder fabrication. Secant pile and jet grout operations are underway in the easternportion of the site as we create a “bathtub” so that we can excavate now that the Deutsche Bank has been deconstructed.
