So what's the big circle that's getting a hefty concrete pad?
That's a concrete footing for the spiral or helix ramp that will bring vehicles down from street level. a circular wall will reach from that footing up to street level with a multitude of steel columns, beams and slabs tied in to it (on a slope). It is also tied deeply into the rock with tie downs. It's essentially the anchor of the entire building.Originally Posted by RoldanTTLB

Too bad that the exterior & form of the building doesn't reflect that circular shape.
The new St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church will bet set (basically) atop that location, yes?
Exactly, in fact now that I look at it, the church may actually be placed more so on the north half of the circle, exerting an eccentric load down onto that slab, which may explain the tie downs we have to drill on the south; to resist the "tipping" effect of the church above.

So the 888 will stay a bit longer?
Another question, will they also excavate the southern part of Phase II (the part south of the new wall which is poured these days)? Or do they wait until it is decided what will be build there?

Unless a tower is planned for this site then it doesn't look like anything will be built, or excavated. If tower 5 plans to be office space, or mixed use (depending on the economy) then who knows.
South of the "T5" wall you see along the south of the job is the Tower 5 site. It is not a PA site and since JP Morgan pulled out of the project there are no plans to start anything regarding Tower 5.
Possibly. There are alternatives also, bring in a 1250 on top etc. Weekend of 14/15 is the 888 end date now. 100 years since Titanic went down!
Is the PA responsible for building out Cedar St. or will that fall to the eventual developer of T5? It'd be nice if the road went in, at least, and then just the T5 site was closed off.
How deep was the foundation for the old Deutsche Bank building? Is what we see south of the T5 wall original land? Or is that fill remaining after the demo of DB?
