Finally purchased a decent digital SLR !
I want this to be a place to share some of the pics of NYC I'll be taking,
while relearning how to take photos without film.

I recognize this from the walkway along Pier 57 -- one of the few crusty places left along the west side waterfront ...

And the drummers out front of the Gansevoort Market buildings ... are they there every weekend?

(I saw [heard] them there last Saturday afternoon.)

Right on both counts- the drummers are often there on weeknights as well

These photos are "most awesome" and I say that with a Bill and Ted accent, but what kind of sick puppy spends more than 100 bucks on a camera? Hey, why not get one of these babies and go all out?

Thanks- yes the tripod is making things both a joy (better pics) and a pain (more security hassles), but well worth it.
Your requests should pop up here now and then, as i find the time to visit the spaced out areas they are located at.

I don't know what kind of sick puppy but...
Any professional artist or photographer who can use a camera to make money for paying their bills!
One can easily spend more than 10 X $100 for a truly high end digital DSLR camera,
and If you want to enlarge pics to any decent size, a cheap point and shoot won't cut it.
(not even with all the photoshoping in the world- just not enough pixels to go around).
I agree paying Leica prices can be ridiculous, but this Pentax (a brand which I've collected
lenses for over 17 years) cost way under $1000- the average starting price for a low end professional model.
