Thumbs up Town Launches New Website

Looks a HELL of alot better than the previous site, with a dramatic hi-res cover image taken from Cifelli Drive in Harrison Commons and a much more appealing color scheme.

    Check it out: http://townofharrisonnj.com/

Yuck, I am not impressed with the architecture of this building, perhaps it is just me ? I thought that the Heller Development was going to be more of an urban village. For my taste, this is too institutional. It looks like a school or office building. The town waited all these years for this , well I am disappointed.

In another rendering the FER-facing fašade has alternating light/dark gray panels, and I think that will help with the visual scale of the building.

And dennis200dz - I agree with you. Not surprisingly, the architect on the project (NK Architects) primarily designs institutional buildings (this is one of their first residential projects).

I'm optimistic about this one though. I think the arched window section of the building with its dark red brick will create a much more organic feel being across from 330 Cifelli (which has rectangular windows and charcoal colored brick). Should add some character to the city square area...certainly better than having the same building on all corners.

Are there any renderings for Forge Lofts?

Default India Tastes and former Horizon Hallmark News

The old diner on Harrison Avenue across the street from the Post Office has a sign in the window that states that the India Tastes Restuarant is coming. It is nice to see more ethnic restaurants in town.
Also, the Hallmark Horizon Store at the Bergen Street Strip Mall closed a few months ago. There is construction going on in the old store so it appears that some new business will be going into this property soon.

    Default PSE & G Question

PSE & G is building their new building on Bergen Street. Does anyone know whether this building will be a new ratable for the Town of Harrison or will it be a tax exempt property. I hope it will be a ratable. After all, PSE &G made three billion dollars in profits last year.

PSEG didn't enter a financial agreement with the town for a tax abatement, so they should be paying full taxes.

Regarding Forge Lofts, I haven't been able to find any renderings but I believe it will have just a slightly different look from SteelWorks and different color scheme (black/white/gray/charcoal).

btw - on Sunday I noticed that there's a new kickboxing gym that's opening in the slot that's never been occupied (looking in on the city square) at 300 Somerset (see below). Still no word on what's going to replace Pronto/Supercuts/GNC, but from that last map that was released it looks like they'll be merging those spaces for a big tenant.

    Default Joia Restaurant by Sol-Mar

While passing Vermella Harrison on FER Blvd today, I noticed that there is a sign in the window for the soon to be opened new Joia Restaurant by Sol-Mar. I noticed that construction on the new restaurant was ongoing. Sol-Mar is one of the better Portuguese Restaurants in the Ironbound Section of Newark.

    Default JFK Elementary School

It looks like construction is finally starting on the Kennedy Elementary School. Ground excavating is now taking place. The school will be a three story structure, and will contain 24 classrooms. It will be for pre-K, kindergarten and first grade students. The school was originally supposed to be completed by September 2019, but it appears to be about a year behind schedule. Harrison has a history of naming schools after former Presidents. The Harrison Board of Education in naming the school for JFK noted that in 1960 the President campaigned in nearby Newark. This important project will end some overcrowding and will make Harrison a more appealing location for parents.
