Nice pics. It looked like they completed the steel structure today and they've had dozens of pallets of those pre-constructed walls delivered to the eastern half of the site. They also started putting the waterproofing on the western half of the building and it looks like they are almost done constructing the parapet on that part of it as well.

That whole Ironbound/Harrison area is really packing a punch lately. That Ironbound section is very thriving. It has a very interesting vibe, it has great food, great people, and the PT is a huge convenience.
Harrison could soon be the Hoboken on the Passaic River in the next 5-10 years. Newark is planning on doing major clean ups along it's waterfronts, creating and renovating new parks as well.

I actually like the industrial scene that particular area NJ has- It gives the area character IMO. I say they should definitely clean it up, but they should do something creative with those abandoned factories instead of destroying them... Like the powerhouse in JC that artists took over:

With the cancelation of the ARC river tunnels the Port Authority has $3 Billion in capital funds that will be redirected else where, I have a feeling one of the places that will see some funding will be the new Harrison PATH station. The PA may expedite the construction of the new station.

I think they raised $$$ for that and overhauling the Tunnels form the Toll System....

Unlike the stalled riverbend project. they dont even have official renderings on the net. just vague blurry artwork in their web slideshow. and promises of starting "vertical construction in 2010". Its 3 weeks untill 2011!!

    Default Re: Retail

The steel structure going up is basically one story (2 over the lobby). According to a local retailer who was looking to expand, Pegasus only wants higher-end tenants in the retail and Starbucks is supposedly already on the roster. Also, the developer is looking for a private operator for a gym/fitness center on the south side of the building.

Default Infill Projects & Other News

There are two infill projects under construction on Harrison Avenue. One is at the former site of Max's Diner and the other is near City Hall. I believe both are 4-story buildings; both have steel-and-brick structures. Also, both are mixed-use with retail on the ground floor and residential on the floors above. In addition (although in East Newark and not Harrison, but only about 2 blocks north of the border between the two), the old BASF factory is being demolished. I haven't heard anything about redevelopment plans for the site.
