Saturday Evening After Thanksgiving • Nov. 27, 2010

Santa sails into New York Harbor! Mr. Claus trades in his sleigh and reindeer for the Eastern Star Yacht. Just like the Macy’s Day Parade, you can spot old Saint Nick on the last “float” of the New York Harbor Lighted Boat Parade!

On the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving, New York Harbor tour boats, work boats, private boaters and charter yachts gather to participate in this ever-so-popular, holiday spirited, harbor-town tradition!

Each vessel well be decorated with twinkling lights and holiday décor, and taking to New York Harbor on this special weekend that kicks off the Holiday season in New York City. Locals and visitors in New York City for Thanksgiving Day, may be taking in the Macy’s Day Parade, beginning their Holiday shopping, seeing the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, ice skating at Rockefeller Center or participating in any number of the iconic New York City Holiday-themed events.

Even though the air is crisp and cool, Harbor tours are still operating and locals and visitors alike are still able to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the entire NYC skyline by getting out on the Harbor. There will be no better way to do this than to step aboard one of the many tour boats in the Annual New York Harbor Lighted Boat Parade.

Boats will begin to muster just north of Chelsea Piers between 6:00 and 6:15 pm. The route begins on the West Side of Manhattan at approximately West 26th Street (Pier 66) at 6:30 pm. The route first heads south along the Hoboken Waterfront, then the Jersey City Waterfront. It then cuts across the deep water range to the far east shoreline of the East River. It tracks north, hugging the Brooklyn Waterfront, Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Dombo Waterfront. The parade route turns south just north of the Manhattan Bridge, hugging the Manhattan Waterfront, giving a tight pass by South Street Seaport, the Lower Financial District, cautiously passing the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, and then north for its last leg back to Pier 66, hugging Hudson River Park and the tips of Chelsea Piers.
