    Weehawken... What is West Hoboken?

The architecture looks like the western end of Hoboken, the generic developer style.

Actually West Hoboken once existed as a municipality as recently as 1925 until it was merged with neighboring Union Hill to create what today we now know as Union City.

Little known fact, when Jersey City was growing and consolidating the smaller towns around it that would later become the individual neighborhoods of Jersey City that we know today, the County put out a county wide vote asking which towns would support consolidating and become part of the new City of Jersey. Only towns that voted YES that were contiguous with Jersey City could be consolidated.

The town of Union Hill, which is now the northern portion of present day Union City, voted TO join Jersey City while West Hoboken, which was contiguous with the present day JC Heights and the southern portion of present day Union City, voted NOT to and therefore by being between the two negated Union Hill's desire to join JC.

So if it wasn't for West Hoboken voting no, Jersey City would also extend into what is now Union City.

Interesting that West Hoboken is gone but the likes of East Newark and South Hackensack have continued more than a century after Jersey was cured of infectious boroughitis.

    Default 800 Lincoln Harbor

This is a Hartz-Mountain project rising at the southern edge of the Weehawken peninsula near Hoboken (immediately west of the Sheraton) that will contain around 600 apartments. Most of the footings are in place now and the foundation should really start to take shape over the next month or so. Sort of looks like a midrise version of the J2 project in Journal Square in some ways.

In a future phase, they're supposed to tear down the Sheraton and build a new hotel (and also build another office or residential building).
