What's a flash mob? Is this one of those huge group photos where everyone is nude and flashes?

No, it's an event where you are flashed by mafiosos and mobsters.

I never heard of a flash mob. For all I knew, this was code for some bathroom meetup where a bunch of dudes do crazy things to each other --- "not that there's anything wrong with that.".

What kind of a cave would one live in to have never heard of flash mobs?

I think I learned about it from this:

That commercial is about a year old. According to Wiki, flash mob entered the lexicon in 2004, so I've been in that cave for a few years.

When my kids were younger, I would've known about these things much sooner.

    The WNY cave

It's a dark and scary place.

I would wager that most straight, middle-aged guys with kids don't know about "flash mobs" and certainly don't participate in them. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I think it had two meanings.

Because they had groups of people that would go out, then all be naked at once. AAMOF, i think someone (Zip?) posted about that a couple of times here.

That was a literal "flash" mob.

But I am not sure if the orchestrated dance numbers began before or after that. If they started after, co-opting the name "flash" to mean the player/media rather than the actual action, it makes sense.

But the question still stands... what happened?

BTW, I see a LOT of "events" posted in different venues, but no vids, news or other confirmation that anything happened:
