Brookfield (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Field Operations; buildings designed by SOM, Thomas Phifer & Partners, SHoP rchitects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa SANAA, and Handel Architects ) looks pretty amazing on the skuyline...
Although down below its a bit too "tower in the park" for me.
Durst/Vornado (Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and FxFowle Architects) suffers from the same "tower in the park" syndrome although its far more interesting
The east side of the development is the most pedestrian friendly it seems.
This shot of 11th Ave. says it all about Extell (Designed by Steven Holl Architects)
Related Properties, Goldman Sachs & News Corp. (Designers include Kohn Pederson Fox, Robert A.M. Stern, and Arquitectonica) looks reasonable but I haven't found a site plan for them yet.
Tishman Speyer/Morgan Stanley (Designed by architect Helmut Jahn and landscape architect Peter Walker) is the tightest site plan
But I'm not sure about the skyline and general massing. Of course this could be easily corrected within the confines of the site plan.

Wow! I sure was expecting more. Some of these proposals are incredibly hideous.![]()
I say Brookfield is the best so far. I don't think the models do it justice..
If I had to pick from best to last, then...
1. Brookfield
2. Vornado/Durst
3. Related Companies
4. Extell
5. Tishman/Speyer
Why dont they just bury that section of the West Side Highway while they are at it?
i like those two towers in the brookfield proposal that appear to be slow dancing with each other on the northwest corner of the site.
Because we would then have the west st tunnel 2.0...
I'd like to clearly see each plan in the skyline and know the heights of the tallest towers in each plan and see some more details before voting.
Maybe SOM; I'm liking it the most.

I think if anything was to be learned from the WTC proposals its that the buildings in these types of site plan proposals are just placeholders and general concepts. The actual buildings will look completely different.
Therefore I'm not going to base my judgement of the plans on what the skyline really looks like in any of these above and beyond the relative placement of buildings. Judging it on the current "architecture" shown in the plans is a mistake IMO.
I'm not so sure the designs will look completely different. There's a BIG difference between this and the WTC. And that's because the architects here are the actual architects of what will be built. Secondly, there will be no fighting among secondary architects that force compromised visions. So while there will inevitably be differences, we can lean heavily on what we see here.
