Default Hotel Gansevoort Meat Packing District

    Hi All,
I'm planning a trip to NYC from England, and came across details of the new Hotel Gansevoort which appeals to me very much.I do have some reservations however regarding it's location in the former meat packing district of Chelsea.
Can any members advise whether it is safe for my Wife and I to walk the streets and sight see in that part of the city or should we take a taxi to and from the the hotel to the more salubrious parts of town.
I look forward to your views and inside knowledge.
    Thanks very much,
    Ron O'Connor Ipswich UK

There wouldn't be such a boutique hotel in a neighborhood that isn't perfectly safe. It's not yet open though.

You are going to be safe there. Have breakfast at Pastis.

    I was around there yesterday.

This place has more models than muggers. I wouldn't worry at all. It's hyper fashionable around those parts.
