    Talking Gargoyles of New York

Many people, especially New Yorkers, pass by them every day. Either because they're too high and out of our line of sight or people are not aware that we have them in New York. I'm talking about gargoyles, chimeras and grotesques!

Gargoyles of New York (http://www.gargoylesofnewyork.com) is a website that brings to you, the gargoyles, chimeras and grotesques in New York City with photographs and their locations. Using the Google Gargoyles Map, you can find the gargoyles featured on the site that are nearest to your location or plan your day visiting these "old world" carvings.

Yeah, this is a great idea for a thread.
He/she probably wants us to visit the site for more. We'll keep the thread going in any case.

That's a great website. Never noticed the Cossit dormitory before - seem to be a neo-Mayan style - very cool.

One set of gargoyles was famous and iconic enough to feature on the cover of Time:

63 Wall is one of my favorite buildings - it has some very neat shark-like gargoyles:

I wonder what the last (most recent) NYC building to feature gargoyles was and when it was built?

Since they are predominantly a feature of neo-classicism (mainly gothicism), I imagine Chrysler's art-deco eagles were some of the last, if not the last, to be put up.

I'm sure there are more recent additions to be found on the cathedral of saint john the divine (i'm guessing from at least the last building spree there a little while back)?

Nice pics! Next time your in that area, the Custom House has some great gargoyle-like bears over the top floor windows... or maybe they're lions.
