Conventional, yes. Boring.... I find it has just enough sizzle (that crisp glass) to keep it from falling into that category. Plus it makes for an excellent neighbor to the NYT:

You know....that looks oddly like how towers 3 and 4 would look over at the WTC site. Interesting.

Proskauer Rose finalizes deal to move to 11 Times Square

Proskauer Rose’s long-awaited move to 11 Times Square is a done deal, sources told The Post. Lawyers and brokers for the law firm and landlord SJP Properties are inking the final documents as this is written, and the last t’s and i’s will likely be crossed and dotted today or over the weekend.

Reps for the two sides couldn't immediately be reached.

The prestigious and powerful firm’s claim to just under 400,000 square feet in the $1.2 billion, 1.1 million square-foot tower vindicates developer Steven J. Pozycki’s four-year struggle to transform what was once the Times Square area’s seediest corner.

Proskauer, which will soon leave 1585 Broadway, is believed to be paying a starting rent in the mid-$70s a square foot — nearly $30 less than Pozycki originally wanted, but a healthy number in today’s climate of depressed rents. Office tenants that will follow Proskauer into the sleek new 40-story skyscraper at Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street will surely pay more.

News that the monumental lease signing was "imminent" was first reported on the Post’s Web site on April 26 and in a longer news story on April 27 — just as this newspaper first reported a preliminary term-sheet agreement between Proskauer and SJP last January.

Pozycki built 11 Times Square on "spec" — i.e., without any pre-signed tenants. Its temporarily vacant status led some real estate observers to regard it as a white elephant that would stand as a symbol of a supposedly miserable office market — even though the tower wasn’t even finished yet.

Pozycki’s company bought the land from Howard Milstein in 2006 for $325 million and broke ground the following spring.
The completed tower represents the final piece in the puzzle of the 42nd Street-area rebirth driven by the Empire State Development Corp. and the city’s Economic Development Corp.

That long-term campaign, begun in the 1980s, also saw the creation of four new office towers at the Broadway and Seventh Avenue corners, and also spurred the the rise of the new One Bryant Park/Bank of America headquarters at Sixth Avenue

By the looks of things outside the entry of 11 TS this was a done deal as early as last Monday (when CURBED reported and posted photos showing that the Proskauer name was up on the building):

"...the top of the 35-story FXFowle-designed tower could be emblazoned with the Proskauer moniker..."

I can't recall anytime in NYC when law firm signage went up high on a 'scraper.

That "Proskauer >>" sign sure looks underwhelming and boring.

    Spec Midtown Tower Lands Anchor
    By Paul Bubny

NEW YORK CITY-SJP Properties’ $1.2-billion spec office tower at 11 Times Square, which broke ground just before the first rumblings of the commercial real estate downturn, has signed an anchor tenant three years later. A spokesman for CB Richard Ellis, which is handling the leasing at the 40-story tower, confirms published reports that law firm Proskauer Rose has inked a deal for approximately 380,000 square feet, but tells GlobeSt.com that he cannot comment beyond that confirmation. Proskauer's spokesman tells GlobeSt.com his firm plans to make a formal announcement on Tuesday....more

Proskauer Takes 406,000 SF in Relocation
    By Paul Bubny

NEW YORK CITY-SJP Properties and law firm Proskaeur Rose made Monday’s reports official on Tuesday with a formal announcement of a 406,000-square-foot, 20-year lease at 11 Times Square, about 25,000 square feet larger than initially reported. The deal for 14 floors of the 1.1-million-square-foot tower, which is scheduled for completion next month, is the first one signed there and is believed to be the largest Midtown office relocation in more than two years. ..more

I think that "Eleven column" looks like crap. The off yellow with ribs looks like the colors of a used condom. They could have done something amazing with todays LCD screens or something like that. This just looks so dated and in contrast to the crisp glassy new look of the building otherwise.

I'm glad more of our towers have some kind of night time illumination. Most post-war towers do not.

The New York Times building looks like a jewel in a sea of refuse.

Yeah now if only the NY Times tower actually lit up its crown at night, it'd be perfect.

That is good to hear. Did they also re-pave the sidewalks yet?
