Yeah so when can we expect this one to start construction?

Just joking. But seriously, who can tell from these pics?

I like the south facade much better than the north. The overhang... I thought I'd like something like that, especially at Times Square, but somehow it just doesn't work IMO.

Of note, the new Subway entrance in this building opened a few days ago. It's stylish in a boisterous TS kind of way. I actually think the overhang looks great from the north and west. Independent of that, I wish we were moving our offices to this building. The corner offices with no columns are just sick.

Once all the illuminated signage and the globe atop the base goes in this side will be a whole other thing.

I used it the other day. I hope that it remains well-maintained.

Anybody know what's going on with the street-level retail here? Be nice to see something exciting on this corner. The aquarium project still in play or did it go to sleep with the fishies?

I've heard nothing. But I wish they'd stick the globe on top of the setback. That and some super signage would liven up the corner.

    Red face

Could not agree more Lofter about the signage.

I think maybe this could have been a great
location for the ill-fated Rock and Roll Hall of Fame NYC annex museum. I actually enjoyed the museum in its short time in Soho. Rent would have been higher here, but they would have kept the turnstiles moving with the tourist foot-traffic. Oh well, I am a jazz guy anyway. At least an annex of that museum should have made it here. It just seems that with all of the rock history in NYC, the main museum would be more suited here than second tier Cleveland (OMG I think I just sounded like LondonLawyer in tone and delivery...lol). Just kidding LL !!

I'm not gonna buy into the we're talking numerous tenants hype that office developers have been pushing around lately until these new office buildings (Newsweek, 510 Madison, 7 WTC) are filled.

    Two great towers!

We need to have the crappy corner with Duane Reade and the adjacent huge lot along W 42nd developed. I'd love to see a Rockefeller Center-type development there with a huge plaza in the middle.

I'd rather have a plaza at the 8th and 42nd corner. A midblock plaza would be almost as ineffective as a similar midblock public space at the Worldwide Plaza complex right up the street. However, a corner plaza would not only decongest that incredibly busy pedestrian intersection, but it would also give a new focal point to the neighborhood. Currently, the gathering space nearest to that intersection is Duffy Square, which seems close but is actually about ten blocks away.

From what I understand that duane reade corner is owned by some sort of old-school mob consigliere / porn-king. Who knows what goes on in the back rooms of his properties. He doesn't seem to be too interested in developing the parcel for a large scale development
