Regarding the value of the apartments fronting onto the hiway: It seems they're doing just fine.

Consider the costs of moving the elevated stretch of roadway. Would that really benefit anyone except those nearby buyers?

The demo & reconstruction of roadway would be a bad & irresponsible use of limited resources.

I'm not claiming it would be money well spent, I'm just amazed the developers aren't pushing harder for it. Also, it seems like Extell is pretty willing to throw serious money into the pot for it to happen, considering they've built no less than a quarter of the tunnel with their own money.

Everything here is pretty much a done deal. All the other buildings are doing well enough with the highway where it is, that the current batch of developers don't have too much to say about it.

Burying the highway would do good things for the park, in that the kind of dead area under the highway could be put into use as athletic fields and such. But no one is going to come up with the money.

The first Riverside Center building is on the lower right, right? What's going in the space directly to the left of this tower?

If you mean directly south of the tower being being built in this picture, there is another development going up that will include a park in this general area.

The Riverside Center tower in the lower right corner is called building #2. Building #1 will be to the left. The land around it has to be elevated for the new streets and park.

    Site plan

    From the west:

The end of the northbound Route 9A tunnel sealed.

I was looking for signs of Freedom Place on that stretch between 62nd and 64th Street, but it is now signed solely as Thelonius Monk Circle, though there is nothing circular about it.

If you look really closely, you can see the poor door already installed. That said, how many buildings are going to get going at once over here? 3? 4? This will be an impressive construction spot.
