No way. I urge everyone who hasn't seen it in person to do so. (And, as a bonus, the new GS tower is across the street.)

It does have a sorta 70s feel to it but with a modern twist, I still like this building. Only thing I think GS will cast a shadow on it in the afternoon when that reaches full height.

    Another look

This building is tough for me. I swing between loving its design and materials, to finding it as revolting as the Javits Federal Building not too far away. I think its the time of day that does it -- the sun really helps the facade.

I think the building looks very nice and is a welcome change to the brick, steel and/or glass buildings that seems to be all the rage for new developments. There is a nice balance between the stone and the glass. The alternating window scheme also makes it very interesting, especially since it spells "101". It looks better from a distance. Up close, the alternating pattern seems busy and a little confusing. Still can't tell when they expect to be done.

Your comment reminded me of the painting by Monet; Roun Cathedral.

    Default timing?

does anyone know when this building is supposed to be ready? friends who bought in the townhome section (lower part) were told december but i don't think there is any way that's going to happen. the rental part doesn't look ready for occupancy either, but the signs are up saying fall 2007. any updates you can share?

The past couple of weeks I've been seeing lots of folks (potential renters???) going in and out at the Greenwich end.

89 Murray is rental, 101 Warren is condo.

While the tower looks much better than the renderings, and the materials are of good quality, the entire ensemble doesn't work very well.

Taken by itself, the Murray St side looks cheap. And they used a visibly lower quality stone on the almost blank wall facing west.

Overall, a positive, but not by much.

It's all over the place, a seemingly random layout zig-zagging all over the block. Yes, the tower is excellent, thankfully.

i agree that the tower/townhome part looks great. i wonder, though, if the townhomes with the covered terraces will be dark b/c of the limestone columns in front. it seems that the apts at the top of the townhome part will have open terraces. i think i would prefer those.
also interesting to note that the whole foods will actually be in the rental building, not the condo. i wonder if that was by design to not have a grocery store in the actual condo. from what i understand, the rental and condo are not connected at all.
has anyone heard what restaurant might be going in on the west street side? let's hope it's something good for the neighborhood! i heard rumblings of a chipotle going in at 200 chambers. i would think that 101 warren would go more high end than that no?
