Spitzer could have bought quite a lot of both kidneys and flowers.

Weird discussion. Never seen anyone get so worked up about flowers.
If it's so weird why prolong it then?
I initially made a little comment, tongue-in-cheek. Then someone said something misleading about the industry of cut flowers and I thought I'd set out a few ideas in one post. Case closed, and topic dropped until something interesting about the actual building comes up, or so I thought. Why get rude at this point?

In reality, all those greedy, corporate bigwigs probably couldn't care less what flowers ended up in the lobby.
Quite obviously. A great many of them don't seem to care one bit about things that negatively affect the environment or the lives of workers. I wouldn't expect them to, most of them have a carbon footprint bigger than a small country anyway. Long as they can afford it, right? Again, these things are all too abstract, evidently. Nothing is related to anything else and we should all just see things at face value, and refrain from getting worked up over such bitchy things.

Building management picks them because they're a superior product. Their quality reflects the building's quality.
"Superior product", or simply more rare and costly to procure because of the intense system of chemicals and transcontinental shipping required? Superior product, or simply a misguided sense of exclusivity that actually has real consequences on the ecosystem? I don't blame them totally, people just need to get educated about all the choices they make, yes, even down to the little ones like what flowers or light bulbs to buy. It all adds up, and the planet is going down the toilet for those who haven't noticed.

Besides, the residents probably more than make up the difference in "lost kidneys" with philanthropy.
    Har har har.
    I doubt it.
Look, they aren't necessarily bad people. They may not know anything about water levels in aquifers, or pesticides in the rivers and streams, or chemicals in flower factories, or any other number of problems exascerbated by their unexamined consuming habits.

I'm actually hopeful that more and more people, rich and poor alike, will start to look at the little choices in life that some are eager to ignorantly dismiss.

Now excuse me while I go water my tulips.

    Guys,

If you're using the word "you" in a post, chances are that the post has strayed off-topic. Disagreemet and civility are not mutually exclusive.

    Take it down a notch.

    Mucho gracias.

Time Warner Center Named The Office Building of the Year by the Mid Atlantic Conference of Building Owners and Managers Association

New York City’s Newest Legacy Building Celebrates Prestigious Award

Time Warner Center, New York City’s iconic mixed-use property developed by Related Companies and Apollo Real Estate Advisors, L.P. , which serves as the world headquarters for Time Warner Inc. and boasts 80 floors of bustling office space, luxury dining, shopping, entertainment and residences, has been named the 2008 winner of The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award in the "Over 1 Million Square Feet" category by the Mid Atlantic Conference (MAC) of Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). I have to say, from the observation deck on 30 Rock, Time Warner is an oasis of beautiful glass in a vast field of ugly. Even Hearst looks like blech from this angle...

You don't like Cityspire? Most of the buildings are boring but they don't strike me as ugly. Nice shot though.

Citiyspire is so sheltered, often forget that it's there.

They look great but they also look fake. They've been photoshopped to the enth degree.
