Re: the pic in the third post up

Why has the Columbus statue pedestal become so filthy? Why do people have to be so disgusting?

Lack of pride, education, proper upbringing...for the most part, and acquired thugishness. It's the same people who throw trash out of windows.

However, considering it seems to be limited to the lowest two steps, it could be just skuffs and dirt from shoes. Monuments get dirty.

Not that I don't agree with James on the underlying issues ...

... But the immediate cause of that nastiness on the pedestal of the Columbus statue is much simpler: skateboarders. They're at the monument 24/7, greasing it up and grinding on it on the trucks of their skateboards. I really have no idea whatsoever why the city doesn't have the cops who always seem to be in the area at least scare them away from time to time. The damage they do is ludicrous, and that all costs taxpayers money.

Yeah, I've noticed the seating and the other areas within the Circle have become noticiably worn, much more so than something that's only about four or five years old should look like.

Where are the community boards on this? Where are the people that normally like to complain about every little thing they see?

Someone needs to 311 those skateboarders. There are so many other less prominant places for them to do their thing.

I never realized the prow was a skylight for the subway entrance...

This one refused to rotate for some reason
