That's BS. Mine was I guess somewhat questionable as I was inside the building. That guard had no right to stop you.

A few months ago I was taking pictures of 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza, and a guard told me I couldn't photo. We asked him why and he said something about seeing the structure. Um... the structure is the emphasis of the architecture, and it's seen in every skyline shot of Lower Manhattan.

Unless you're inside a building or on its property, you can legally snap away as far as I know. Worst comes to worst, the police come, you tell them what you're doing and what for, and most likely they'll tell the guard t f off.

That building could have been so much taller.

Oh well, at least it's not a total disappointment like 505 Fifth Avenue.

505 Fifth at least integrates with the neighboring building. I like it's design. This building is big ugly corporate crap.

As far as corporate crap goes, I don't think it's all that ugly.

It's SOM, what do you expect?

You're gonna get four walls that go straight up, nothing more, nothing less.

Any one of us can go work for them and do the same just as well.

Not that 300 MA can do anything about it, but I'd like it alot better if somehow somebody could get rid of the fugly 60's POS opposite the NYPL on 5th ...

Based on the vague description, the Boston Properties tower proposed for Eighth & 55th sounds a lot like this tower. Tower on podium, SOM, full blockfront. Only relief is the 8th Ave tower is 1 story taller and 300k sq. ft. slimmer.

I've seen the top of the building illuminated once and the fins look nice in the early morning. Otherwise, every morning I think to myself how this tower is such a waste. Thank god for sliver residentials and holdouts preventing more of these hulks from going up.

Right there in that picture is the dichotomy what make NYC's architecture great and bad at the same time.

This is "exhibit A" in the case that says we still haven't learned from the past, as far as building non-groteque commercial towers go. Boring boxes are with us to stay.

Reminds me of Citi's headquarters at 399 Park Avenue. If I didn't live in New York, and I came in and was told that 300 Madison was built in the 60's I would totally believe it --- it does not look like a product of the 21st century at all.

It does look like a product of SOM though
