    Distinctive, isn't it?

CIBC is just way too fat!

    I agree.
    And 425, 5th is a pale imitation of 500, 5th.

Nice skin...but too fat and overbearing. It would have been better if it was a little more slender.

That would have been an ideal location for an exceptional tower. Graves's finger sure sticks out.

It's a horrible color. *Too wide, too short, and just another SOM clone in a city that has far too many.

    very true TLOZ Link5

The thing is, SOM knows how to make good buildings...it just dosn't seem to do so in NyC.

I must say, the CIBC is one of my personal upsets. The rendering seemed so slick and it came out to be fat!

    What did you expect ?
The thing doesn't even reach the usual 750 ft.
Never mind, from the street level, it won't make much difference.

I'm assuming the building was designed to accommodate the needs of CIBC, even though the co won't occupy as much space as planned...

It doesn't make a difference on the skyline, but it does a good job of blocking the view of the Chrysler Building from most of Bryant Park.

The bigger shame is the lost opportunity on a street of superstars - 42nd Street.

Don't worry, there will be plenty of other possibilities.
I'm thinking of the building that's right to the west of Grace Building.
It looks contemporary, but I think that it's an old structure that was reclad.

    It could be demolished.

You're right Fabb, that would be a great location. That's the HBO building, and though it is squat, it is pretty nice.

Really, the prime site left on 42nd is across from the HBO where 1 Bryant Park is scheduled to go. I always thought that it would be nice if it was taller Conde Naste. I've always though that Conde Naste was just a bit too short to give a proper counter point to the Chrysler so I was hopin 1 Bryant would be taller. Now with the proposed antenna extension to Conde Naste I'm pretty sure that it won't be so as not to block the signals.
