Can anyone confirm if the glass base will be backlit, providing some warmth to glass otherwise pressed against steel and concrete?

    Default what?

ok i know for a fact that the base of the Freedom Tower is made up of glass and concrete. now i heard you say that the outside of the building is glass???. omg that is not good at all, I sure hope this building stands. i mean i think all of you can agree that the Twin Towers look so much stronger and sturdier, and more solid because the buildings looked as if they were all steel and had no windows because the steel colums were spaced so closely.also i think this Freedom Tower is very dangerous, and is a definite target for terrorists. what also makes me nervous is that this building will not be made up of the amount of steel that the Twin Towers were

    Eh?

Reinforced concrete core, steel frame, glass skin. Thats what its made out of. No building of this height could be supported by glass, or at least i would hope not because I wouldnt work/live in one.

ya but its hard to visualize this building being made out of steel because its so shiny and you cant see the closely spaced steel columns on the outside like the Twin Towers.and plus if you were to go on a flooor in the Freedom Tower in the future would you be looking out of a big window ?

Just because there's less steel visible on the outside makes that cause to worry? This will be THE safest tower ever built, far surpassing the originals in strength and structural redundancy. And yes, you'll be looking out of a big window on the new tower; it has floor to ceiling glazing.

Imagine how the bottom of 7 WTC looks. Solid, no windows.
The Freedom Tower base is essentially a concrete bunker with minimal openings. To hide the fact it is a solid bunker, they are cladding it with prismatic glass.

    Default I hope your right

yes i understand that the base of the Freedom Tower is strong wich is good because it protects the building from truck bombings. But I hope your right about the Freedom Tower being stronger and being able to withstand an impact of a plane. I just hope we dont have to prove the Freedom Towers strength and durability.

Mattsev, architects use something called spandrel glass. Its like painted glass which has no transparency on one end but shares the same reflectiveness as regular transparent glass on the other end. It hides all the ugly steel columns and concrete slabs which support the building while giving an illusion that it is standing on a wall of glass.

    Unhappy

The building will be a target regardless of what it's made of.

In that case, is there any way we can stick Sam Chang, Gene Kaufman, H. Thomas O'Hara and Peter Poon in there somewhere?

Anything built at the WTC site will become a target. But New York has a long list of targets for the would-be terrorist to consider. Why go for the one with the bunker?

Being aware and prepared for terrorism doesn't mean we have to become obsessed with it.
