Getting into that place, for one, is going to be like trying to get into Fort Apache, Fort Knox or a bank vault!
If they won't allow pictures to be taken there now, and God only knows what else, then what else are those bozos going to forbid there?!

I am not surprised that folks have been hassled to such an extent.
Back in 2007 I was denied access to the site because my drivers license had expired the day before. The only reason I was allowed access is because my passport was valid. (For some crazy reason, I brought three forms of ID.)
I am talking about actual access to the WTC site. To me it's just crazy and probably UN-constitutional, to deny Scum monkey or anyone else, the right to take pictures, on public land.
To me this harassment by security is just silly. How many web cams are trained on the site 24/7 !?!
If they really didn't want folks taking pics they would erect a 400 foot high screen around the entire site. (And that would do nothing for security.)
I signed, and have adhered to, a non-disclosure agreement because I have access to sensitive information about the WTC. I don't see how pictures of the construction could possibly be a compromise to security.
Just an example: tell me what grade of steel was used in the construction of the 20th floor nodes ? I sure as hell didn't tell anyone, and no one can possibly tell by looking at pictures !

I was planning to visit the obs deck in 1 WTC when it opens, but I don't know now. I want to, but I don't want to friggen go through those hassles!
Hopefully by then, they'll have relaxed some of that ridiculous screening. Looks like they're going to want your whole life history before you can even come to within 50 feet of the place!!
Also, it is my belief and suspicions that they just might put one of those body scan machines in 1 WTC similar to the ones used at the airports. Who knows? Anything is possible these days.
scumonkey, I to have been stopped for taking pics around the site, only on the west & south side though. And of course 2 out of 3 times it was the same gaurd, go figure. Its gets to a point where it is harassment and they go to far. I mean with all the webcams, google earth, bing maps ETC. How is a picture a threat to anything?
I wonder if these gaurds understand that on wtcprogress.com it states photography and videography is permitted outside of the fence
That's the only places I ever get harassed at as well...that's the side I was on yesterday, because that put theI to have been stopped for taking pics around the site, only on the west & south side though
sun at my back- in my eyes on the other.
I however on this trip i was harassed by many different swollen headed 4-0
Then they've got their work cut out for them; as the building continues to rise & 9/11 draws closer, they're going to be running like headless chickens plugging leaks in the dam all over the place. There will be so many people with cameras they'll need to triple the security force if they're that sensitive about people taking pics.
That would be taking things way too far.
If they're so damn concerned about security, then why wasn't the lazy gov't this concerned before 09-11? Now, there's not one skyscraper in this country with an obs deck where you don't have to be heavily screened before you can visit it!
It's just a building - not the Penagon or the White House!!

that all I'll say![]()
That is exactly what it is!! I think that you hit the nail on the head!
Hyped-up paranoia, I might add.
They're just blowing everything all out of proportion and it seems as though they just want to jump up and play Mr. Get Bad at innocent people who just want to view the place and take a few pics of the construction progress!!
I remember the 3 times I went to visit Ground Zero, and this was before any of the buildings started being built. Of course back then, they were still trying to master the design stages. But I took some pics with my Olympus digital camera and there was no one hassling me, telling me that photographing anything there was not allowed.
