    New steel going up today, nice, that seemed like a little faster turnaround, no?

    I had the pleasure of visiting several floors of the tower today, up to the 88th right beneath the cranes. Everything is so impressive; the wide stair wells, the mechamical rooms, the thick and filthy windows...but seeing once again essentially the same views as the old towers was by far the most thrilling. Just a little farther...

    I wouldn't be surprised if they were told to speed it up because of the delay. Having that building topped out before summer and before tourist season gets into high gear is probably being breathed down their necks...

    You don't build something like this faster just by whipping the workers harder. There are a million things that have to be produced and accomplished exactly right and all the political pressure in the world isn't going to make it go faster at this stage.

    What are they going to do when the East side of the building becomes skinnier than the elevator tower?

    Some gorgeous photos of Disney Cruise Line's newest ship, Disney Fantasy, passing Lower Manhattan;

    In a not-all-that-happy development for us near-river-dwellers, the Disney Fantasy has a bullhorn which plays jingles (primarily, "When You Wish Upon A Star") at window-shaking decibel levels, which it used to serenade Lower Manhattan at 7:30 AM. (FYI, in the middle photos, you can see my bedroom window about eight stories over the central water spout. Just inside of that window, at the time the photo is taken, is a very groggy and surly person.)

    I just drove past that Disney cruise ship near the Intrepid. I had no idea what it was (the Mickey Mouse ears gave it away somewhat), little did I know I would see this post less than ten minutes later...
