Does anybody else agree that a Tokyo Tree-like spire with an observation ring would have been great on top of 1WTC?

Anything substantial that could catch the light like the Sky Tree would have looked great. The lighting effects on the Tokyo Sky Tree are amazing. Neither the old spire nor the new Durst antenna come close to something like it. I don't get why the lighting on 1WTC is so bland when the ESB gives such a great example of the significance of lighting.

Obama visiting WTC on the 14th. Will that be the topping out date?

I agree regarding the Sky Tree. Heck, even a rollercoaster ride like they have on top of that spire in Las Vegas would be an improvement. (sarcasm).

Obama to visit One World Trade Center construction

WASHINGTON -- President Obama will visit the former site of the World Trade Center this month to view the progress of One World Trade Center, the growing skyscraper that became the tallest building in New York City this spring.White House spokesman Josh Earnest briefed reporters Friday about the visit, which is scheduled for Flag Day, June 14, according to FOX News Channel.

More than a decade after the 9/11 terror attacks, the building's skeleton finally surpassed the Empire State Building's 1,250 foot high observation deck on April 30.

Once known as the Freedom Tower, One World Trade Center will eventually measure 1,776 feet, including a 408 foot tall needle that will be attached to the roof.

The tower is expected to be completed at the end of 2013 or early 2014.

Earnest told reporters Obama's visit will be a preview of the skyscraper's "topping-out ceremony," a traditional event held to commemorate the completion of a building's structure.

On Wednesday night, the 9/11 Memorial also marked the 10th anniversary of the end of clean-up operations at Ground Zero.

You can't mean the lighting we see on 1WTC now do you. Do we even have a future night lighting plan for it when complete?

President Obama will visit the 'former site of the World Trade Center'. 'FORMER SITE'? I wish reporters would take the time to check facts and syntax.

    Thanks

If the fire this morn did anything it at least provided a crash course in what to do if something like that does happen. Glad the workers are ok.
