The similar height and massing to the original twin towers is more important IMO.

Looks like WTC1's curtain wall is catching up to WTC4.

It doesn't look as bad on a cloudy day.

Still has nothing to do with the rest of the building.

It just feels like the restoration of through streets and leveling of the plaza is for naught here with the pedestrian unfriendliness of it all.

I know it will a very high profile building but given the share strength of the building, is a bomb threat that great to require such ugliness. The other buildings have 'regular' bases.

I think it's indicative of the time when the building was first designed. What is it now? 8 or 9 years? The pain was still sharp, the outrage fresh and the paranoia deep.

The building would never be designed like that today. I hope.

Maybe somewhat, but I think the obsession with security was (and still is) mainly related to this building.

The revised design for 1 WTC (with the NYPD bunker) was released in mid 2005; the designs of the other three buildings a year later.

And the added emphasis on 1 WTC continued afterward. The "prismatic glass" was supposed to be resistant to shattering into dangerous shards; there doesn't seem to be any special concern for dangerous glass at the other buildings.

I think the original Childs design of 1 WTC was more reflective of the time. There was debate about whether another "target" should be built at all, and the bird-cage design removed office floors from the top. There was a fear that very high office space would be difficult to market.

    That seems so long ago.

Beautiful. HOWEVER, the true beauty will not be realized until Two World Trade Center and Three World Trade Center are built.

The comm ring is somewhat underwhelming. I guess that was to be expected based on the height of the tower and that you'd never really see it from the top like in models, huh?

Great pictures, espcially the last one. You don't happen to have these shots in high res for me? (for desktop wallpaper purposes)
