    As far as I'm concerned, the spire is probably being temporarily stayed by the platform they built up top.

    You won't be able to miss the cables when they go in, they're huge. I would imagine they're required for only the worst case scenarios in terms of a fully loaded antenna being hit by a storm. For the purposes of erecting the thing I doubt it needs much lateral support, even from the platform.
