Nothing at night yet. I need a new tripod head.

That would've made one awesome observation deck.

That base just doesn't look like enough to hold a 430' tower against hurricane winds without guys.

Did they cancel the guy wires too?

The longer the zoom range, the slower it's going to have to be, or else it would get physically enormous (which is roughly proportionate to price). Nature of optics: size, speed, low price; pick two. Best bet for speed would be to pair a 24-70 and a 70-200 f/2.8. Yes I'm aware that would still cost $4,300. You won't get better glass for less money.

Nope. Just taking their time with hurricane season upon us. When you figure the leverage without the guys and a 100mph breeze on that tower, it would be a helluva pull on those mounting bolts.
Maybe they need to finish with the temporary platforms first.

A complicated subject. Start a thread in Anything Goes.

They have now removed all of the temporary platforms down to the guy wire anchor frame. Looking a lot cleaner now.

That "base" is monstrous btw. The anchor bolts for the antenna are 3" diameter tension rods embedded in one of the thickest, most heavily reinforced slabs I've ever worked on.

Wish I could have seen it go together. No doubt, the bolts aren't going to break. I'd just be interested in how they're attached to the structure. I'm sure they're not just sunk in concrete. Height to width isn't that bad on the mast. I'm probably just getting over conservative in my dotage.
I always wondered if the guys were more for wind or impacts. Zen seemed pretty sure a hurricane wind would be more of a load than any earthquake or airplane.

I'm starting to like the spire in a goofy sort of way.

Does each "band" of the spire (separated by rings) have its own discrete lighting array? I can picture them doing a rainbow spire for Pride 2014, for example.
