The Katyń Memorial is one of the most aesthetically terrible monuments in America. It looks like a male ballet dancer caught in an uncomfortable pose, and raises perverse associations of the anti-Semitic "stab in the back" myth. A shame that it ruins this awesome view.

^What association is that? I always thought it was a pretty fitting memorial, a surprised, helpless soldier stabbed in the back by an "allied" bayonet. Why would there be an anti-semitic connotation, especially given the fact that many of the soldiers it memorializes were Jews?

If anything I think its placement serves as an important counterpoint to an architectural complex that has long been about height and might. It grounds the buildings viewed alongside it in the realities of our world - as so tragically seen on 9/11.

Here's what the 64th floor sky lobby looked like over the summer.
