It also looks like they have a foundation in place for one of the perimeter columns, in the southwest corner.

I spoke to the 1WTC teamster on site and the 1&9 box is suppose to be lifted in this weekend. It was suppose to happen last weekend but it was stopped in canada because of permit reasons. The section coming is 100 feet long and will be tandem lifted. Time and day I do not know.

I know this has been talked about a lot but what is the 1&9 box? Is it some kind of hollow box that the subway trains actually travel through?

Yes, essentially the floor, ceiling, and walls of the 1 and 9 subway trains (actually, now just the 1 train). Though it is an underground train, when everything surrounding it is excavated it soars through the site like an El.

Except from the inside it looks like a tunnel.

I'm confused. I thought the #1 box is what is already there.

Is the 100 ft section the future subway station?

Sal, do you mean box girder? Or really, the plate girder?

It may be the box girder but im not 100% sure. I mentioned the 1500 ton beam and what was told to me is there is lift about to be done this weekend. He said last weekend was when it was suppose to happen but permits delayed it at the Canadian border. Then told me its 100 feet long and he said the weight but i didn't catch it but I want to say, 230,000 lbs, he didn't really say much when I mentioned it. I just assumed it was the 1&9 box

I thought I heard that the plate girder, the section connecting to the Spanish column, was supposed to be in last week too, so I guess we're talking about the same thing. The 1 & 9 box is what's there already, they use the top of it for staging and etc...

^That's what I was assuming, since you said it was 100' (as opposed to the south plate girder which is partially there already).
The 1 & 9 box, FYI, is at the bottom of the photo with orange netting.

OK, so it's another section of little girder.

The Manitowoc 18000 is going to tear that train box up. How much could it weigh? 80 tons at max.

I've been waiting a long time for them to shut down the 1 line, so i'll see if I can get over there when they're lifting it. Unless it isn't anything visible, like a few inches. hopefully up and off it's stilts. That would be an amazing earthcam picture of the underground labyrinth.

The 18000 probably weighs over 1 million pounds right now. I will get my spec sheet out tomorrow and check, I just got done putting together my scale model of it....
