There are harder curves from Christopher Street to Hoboken. And it was either that, or find some way to make 1WTC float.
They made that tunnel to tight , the train feels like its going to come off the tracks.....

Yes and no , i think the WTC curve is worse. I guess thats becuz your going slower....
^^^ That pic reminds me of a job site I was at a few years ago. One of the operating engineers managed to get a "Lull" buried up to it's axles in mud. We did him a favor and lifted it out with the crane we had on site to do the steel erection.
The entire WTC site will have around 30 sump pumps to take care of river water seepage and rain. (Some parts of the origonal dranage system are actually being reused.)

EAST-WEST CONNECTOR MOVES FORWARD
World Trade Center Progress
Newsletter September 2010
Fifty four arches have been installed in the East-West Connector
The East-West Connector is a subterranean pedestrian passage- way which, when completed, will bisect the WTC site to con- nect Fulton Street subway to the World Financial Center (WFC). Fifty four arches, specifically designed to support the Connector, have been installed inside, and the Fulton Street slab above the arches is now available for construction access. The arches, each one more than 30’ tall, come in two varieties: some weigh 10 tons while others weigh 25 tons.
An important part of the East-West Connector is the Route 9A Underpass, which runs under the West Side Highway and links the WTC site with WFC. The Underpass is 280’ long and descends 60’ below grade. It will replace the North Bridge, which came down during the 9/11 attacks.
Working on the Route 9A Underpass while maintaining six lanes of traffic presents a challenge, as do the soil and water pressure in the immediate area. The Port Authority and its contractors regularly coordinate with Brook-field Properties, NYSDOT and NYCDOT to en-sure that construction progresses unimpeded and on schedule.
I wish one could see some designs for the connector.
You can see a glimpse of it at the end of this animation...

Also, watching this animation makes me think that instead of waiting for the oculus to be completed in 2014 before they can begin dismantling the current temp entrance, they should allow the permanent headhouse in front of the Winter Gardens to serve as a temporary entrance to the PATH station. I have no idea when they plan to have the headhouse and the underground connector completed, but if let's say they can have it completed by the 10th anniversary (2011), then that would allow the dismantling of the temp entrance and hence the construction of the PAC to begin 3 years earlier. Even if 2012 is a more realistic target date, then that would still be 2 years sooner than waiting until 2014.
The East-West connector will not be done in time regardless, so the PAC is better off waiting until an entrance from the oculus is underway. The PA already voted on that.
