Oh, great!!!! now 1010 WINS is reporting the School bus shooting incident. This WILL go NATIONAL (CNN/FOX/Leno/Letterman if its not already. Newark's image will be set back to post riot/dodge city in the eyes of parents! This CANT be nothing more than an organized attempt by thugs to derail Newark's already stalled residential boom. They know that an improved Newark will command rents that these welfare leeching "huslin'" thugs cant afford, so their plan is to kill and frighten people away from Newark. Its working. Lets see now....The factors behind this crime spike.....

Gary McCarthy was due for reappointment to Police Chief by the majority Black& anti booker city council. It seems only Augusto Amador,Anibal Ramos,Juan Gonzales and Donald Payne are with the mayor in being tough on crime. All the others are catering to the violent ghetto majority, criticizing Pre-emptive Police measures such as drug busting road blocks and checkpoints in high murder areas.
• They are more concerned with the civil rights of the "brothers" who murder each other, rather than the city taxpayers who hide in their homes!! Of course!!! Councilmembers Ras Barraka,Mildred Crump,Sharriff,Quintana the sharpe James lackey and Gayle Cheneyfield Jenkins NEED the Ghetto vote to overcome the white&Hispanic north and East Wards.Mc Carthy could not enforce the law out of fear that the councill might terminate him. Indeed, Black activist began circulating a leaflet asking "HOW CAN ANIBAL RAMOS BE MAYOR??" in every ward except north and east wards. It was a racist anti white rant about latinos being white ethnic outsiders who support MCCarthy, and an invasion by non Hispanic whites would follow the election of a Puerto Rican that "looks white" instead of a black.
• The rebuilding and spread out of the projects in Newark means that no place is far enough from a public housing "townhouse"complex to be safe. The criminals that have returned from jail/prison now have expanded territory to play with!Old scores need to be "settled',bodies need to drop, and rival gangs battle for control of the new townhouses.
• Third and finally, the police layoffs!!
• Look for the shooter's family,Sharpe James's son, and all ghetto community lobby activists call for Booker's head. They will demand answers from the police...BUT REMEMBER, as they say in the ghetto,..DONT SNITCH!!

Okay cool, glad glocally's back.

SUCKS BIG about the school bus. It's bad enough they can't shoot, but they don't care whose around. This will be almost as bad in the media as the '06 Mt. Vernon shootings. Thank god none of the kids were hurt.

If Ramos were to run, he chances of winning are better than you think. When I worked during election day in 2005 I found out an important detail: everyone in the North and East Wards votes, hence why we didn't go in those sections. It's the other wards who hardly come out. They complain about everything but when it comes to Election Day they do nothing. Add on the slowly growing Hispanic population in the West Ward below 280 and Ramos has a decent chance.

And also, why not add a police checkpoint at that intersection, especially with the HUD housing at the scene of the crime? Doesn't matter if it's "unconstitutional", just declare a state of emergency or something. It worked in DC. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...060402205.html

Point to consider, if you have been convicted of a federal crime, you are forbidden to vote in elections.

Last time I drove up Broadway all I saw were wife beaters and pit bulls. With the exception of Forest Hill, the same ghetto streetscape that people on this board seem to only attribute to blacks is rampant in the north ward. Drug dealers on every other corner, hispanic "homies" chillin on the street calling eachother "n*gga," chop shops galore... I'm sorry but the hispanic northward is ghetto too. Same shit, different race. If hispanics are so much better, why the same conditions?

Who's to say that Ramos won't have to battle the same opposition? I don't think a hispanic mayor is going to make a difference. It might make things worse if the political and racial sects in city hall that you describe are indeed they way things are. I feel that if Booker, with all his star power, media savvy, business accumen and ridiculous network couldn't achieve the change that so many people anticipated, why and how can Ramos? Because he's hispanic? Not to knock the man; he's a great public servant, but so are many up and coming politicians.

Without a strong economy, any Newark mayor is going to falter or limp along. Newark is not positioned well enough to weather bad economic times.

Yeah or a police station(substation) on the opposite side of the street might help

Mods, why does this thread have all sorts of off-topic garbage?

This is the only thread in WNY where irrelevent stuff appears to be posted. This isn't a thread to talk about every criminal incident in a city. We have newspapers for this.

This thread is to discuss Real Estate, Development, News and Politics as it pertains to Newark.

You're better off sending a PM to a Mod. They don't really look at this thread.

what did you expect? Broadway has the projects along 2nd avenue and down Grafton avenue. OH,yeah, don't forget the new townhouse project. On Chester ave. All these off broadway. At least Bloomfield ave isn't Springfield ave.

This Newark thread is one all-encompassing thread for one entire city. Without first hand knowledge it isn't always clear what is relevant and what isn't. But I agree about the reporting of each and every crime - think about what this website would be if every crime in New York was posted, or the Atlantic City thread if every crime there was posted there, and on and on. As I said before, posts about random crime incidents will be deleted. I've already done it once and will continue to do so. If we miss it, please notify a moderator.

Well that's my point exactly. People are making the north ward to be so much better than other wards and I'm pointing out that it looks and feels the same, with the same ills that plague the other downtroden wards. the only difference is race. So hispanic ghettos are better than black ghettos? Continually blaming blacks for the state of Newark is a dubious argument.

I do agree with you though about Bloomfield ave vs. Springfield Ave (and So. Orange ave)

while I agree that stretch of the north is poor with low quality of life with some crime, it's a different story form other parts south of 280. Why is it you hear the Lyons Aves, South Orange Aves., Chancellor, Clinton, Irvine Turner, etc. more than you hear Broadway? Hate to say it but race does play at least a small part of it. Hispanics in general have a sense of family, pride and a sort of respect towards one another. Oh and there's also a more affluent section next door(Forest Hill) to offset Broadway. The south and west don't have that(Upper Vailsburg and the southeastern quadrant of Weequahic combined is smaller than Forest Hill).

I definitely have to disagree w/ that. If you look at the opposite coast, there are hispanic neighborhoods in Cali that are either on par or worse than many black neighborhoods and vice versa. Race may certainly play its part, but then that's just a matter of where exactly you're talking about.
