What you just posted above ^ happens in EVERY city. That's why it doesn't make the papers. There are car thefts, burgalaries, etc everywhere... including in the nice quiet suburbs of Everytown, USA. And the Society Hill neighborhood isn't necessarily a middle class neighborhood yet. It's a development on the outskirts of what has been a notoriously bad neighborhood for years. It's quite a ways from the downtown and heart of Newark.
    Thank you.

Also, I'm sorry but not even a broken window is the 'real' Newark. If that's all it takes to shake block944 up then he could never have lived in a truly bad Newark neighborhood. The supposed 'real' Newark? Try 16th and surround.

hmmmmm I volunteer at the Extended care facility at NCC, most of the people there are good/ok, its the area surrounding it. 1 month ago one of the nurse staffed got assaulted heading to the parking lot. Around 10 pm there are people wandering around like zombies in the parking lot and they all come from the surrounding area

Anywho... wasn't Studebacker lofts going to be more market rate housing than affordable? Looks like the ratio slipped to 50% affordable now?

    Looks like

    · Developers are also working with the City to create new loft apartments in Newark. Studebaker Lofts will create 68 of these homes (50% of them at affordable rates). The historic Bowers building will undergo a renovation to create new lofts on Market Street. And a former car dealership will soon blossom into Packard Lofts, with 30 new residences at the corner of Broad and East Kinney Streets.

side note packard lofts look really nice

Truthfully you are nobody really, the people that want to invest in newark with real money sees things like this and moves on as the risk to high. Probably why affordable housing gets built to quickly

To those that don't get my jada/creep rant, she's is in her 20's, a violent gangbanger, still associates and flash gang signs, has 2 kids and just got knocked up by another gang banger..... HAS NO JOB!... HAS NO EDUCATION... guess who is paying for her kids? We are! Guess who is paying for her clothes! WE ARE! Guess who is paying for her section 8 vouchers... WE ARE!!! Life is good for her she can pop out 2 more and still be unmarried. She says she now cleaned her life up and is a speaker but she is still and always will be sucking off the state of NJ to survive.

The shocking thing to me from Brick City is seeing the VP of central high having a barbecue withe the Crips gang members. So by day he is a professional leading a failing school and getting a fat paycheck and by night he rolls with Crips?

Peter W. Rodino Federal Building Modernization

    Newark, New Jersey

Winner, On the Boards Engineering Citation, GSA 2010 Design Awards

Description of Project:The American Recovery and Reinvestment has authorized $146 million for this 16-story building's first major upgrade in its 41-year history. Completed in 1968, the 526,609 gross square foot Rodino Federal Building, located in the heart of Newark’s civic center, is the largest federal building in the State of New Jersey.
The upgrade will construct a new glass curtain wall over the existing precast façade, which will transform the structure’s outward appearance. GSA will also renovate the interior offices spaces. While the building has received partial asbestos abatement in the past, this project will provide for abatement in the balance of the building.
    Sustainable Features
To provide for a more energy efficient building, this project has a goal of achieving U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® Silver designation. System enhancements in the structure will focus on high performance lighting, cooling plant, and air handling units. In addition, the new glass curtain wall will create an energy efficient dual curtain wall. GSA anticipates that these features will reduce overall energy use by approximately 32%.
    Timeline

    • Bridging documents are completed
    • Design/Build contract award is completed
    • Construction work began in October 2010
    • Completion is anticipated for spring 2015

    Contractor information:
In August, 2009 GSA awarded the firm of Dattner Architects of New York a $3.45 million contract modification to begin preliminary design work and bridging documents on this project. In addition to its own efforts on the project, Dattner also employed the services of nine other local companies as subcontractors and consultants. Bovis Lend Lease of Princeton, NJ is providing construction management services and is contracting with five additional local firms as sub-consultants on the project. The modernization of the Rodino Federal Building will be completed under a design/build contract. A general construction contractor will be brought onto the project via that award.
Bridging Architect: Dattner Architects, New York City
Design/Build Contractor: Tocci/Driscoll Joint Venture, Woburn, MA
Architect of Record: KlingStubbins, Cambridge, MA and Philadelphia
Construction Manager: Bovis Lend Lease, Princeton, NJ

    Subcontracting Opportunities:
GSA anticipates additional subcontracting opportunities through this project. For more information, contact Al Bendig, Senior Project Manager, L.F. Driscoll Co, LLC, 9 Presidential Boulevard; Bala Cynwyd, PA 19003, phone 610-668-0950.

I think its dead. There 's a new sign advertising some" Broad Street Station 3-acres available." Sounds like strip mall build to suit. Berger is a landbanker and is probably looking for some parking lot operator to rent the acres with Broad street station as a bait/lure.

What a waste of land Strip Malls should be built along 21 , not along the other streets. Isn't that site zoned for TOD , how can a strip mall even be built there?

Newark needs to take more advantage of its airport. Perhaps taking the airport back from the Port would bring more revenue, or at least working to make the airport bigger to draw more passengers away from JFK? Newark could really become a major transport hub and could reap the benefits of an expanded Newark airport if it were calling the shots. Newark has an opportunity to add a runway while JFK/Lga are tied. What an opportunty to take the airport back and build it out. Newark could become NY's favorite airport if delays were cut and terminals built to harness retail expenditures that would fill the city's coffers with taxes. That would be a mega boon to the city.

Negative. The people that invest in Newark simply...do (like the developments along the arena, and that hotel you keep avoiding in conversation, etc.)

If developers were like you (where a broken window causes enough of an upset), then Newark wouldn't have even made it past NJPac. (it's amazing you still live in Newark; why torture yourself?)

Potential monies almost always outweigh 'risks'. How do you think that Home Depot got built? b/c it's a great area? I think not.

Let us not forget, it's almost as expensive to build in Newark as it is in Manhattan. Difference? Manhattan is well...Manhattan. Newark cannot promise the same return. Then you have land-bankers, and let's not forget to mention the arsenal of low-end business owners who murdered the Mulb-Prom.

Wrong again they are funded by BCDC and NewarkNow which takes state and federal aid as well as city tax breaks.... to make a hotel and grill joint? LOL Don't worry when the hotel is foreclosed due to low vacancies (nets will be gone when it opens and devils most likely sold) you will finally get it. =)

Its just up for sale as the economics didn't work out, the key to that area is Westinghouse development which was under remediation but was halted... anyone know why? The machines got quietly taken away over the winter
