Does anybody know when NJT is going to add Turnstiles to the Newark Subway?

Don't know but they should add some at its downtown stations especially Penn. The surface extension can be left alone but the busiest ones between Washington St and Penn should have them. Not like there isn't room for any.

All the Stations on the Main line had turnstiles ,so putting them back in wouldn't be such an issue... As for the Board Street spur , its only used by 5000 a day opposed to the 21,000 who use the main line.

When? Because I know people paid on board when the PCC cars were around, then at TVMs when the LRVs came out.

I wonder if there going to fix the rest of the tunnels and add them to the newark subway line they should include this into a new subway entrance.

Sorry nexis, but Only Penn & Broad street (military pk) station had turnstiles. I never saw them, but Broad street/military park still has the turnstile lanes. Turnstiles are not coming back. We at NJTRANSIT HAVE AN "honor system" its called a "Paid fare zone". Tickets are purchased, then stamp vallidated. You get 60 minutes to go to and from or as many rides as you want, but if your caught by fare inspectors, and your ticket is expired, missing,or not even purchased, the fine is up to $100.

NJT should install Fare gates like these , and move towards a plastic rechargeable fare card instead of the paper tickets which are a waste if you ask me..

I don't think there were Tunnels there , the trains ran at Grade into the Terminal. If your Talking about the stalled Newark-Elizabeth Subway , then yes that would be a cool reuse of a building.

Correct, no tunnels. The tracks left the terminal and ran at-grade for a block, then crossed McCarter Highway and ran through the Ironbound on a series of bridges. If you look at an aerial of the Ironbound today you can still see where the R-O-W once existed.

    Good looking pics.

I just left Dino's, the place had a good number of people in it (actually, there were quite a few people walking on the street as well. I don't know if there was an event at the arena or NJPac but whatever).

    --------------------

Before Newark goes vertical it's really going to have to fill in the 'blanks' on the street level. With the street level reclaimed, it'll make sense at that point to go vertical (and it is then Newark would be able to demand higher rents, not before).

And they really need to turn that NJCRR facade into the western entrance of the arena already.
