Default Vladimir Putin stole my ring

This is a truly 'bizarre' story about how Putin stole the New England Patriots Super Bowl ring......

    http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/kraf...=SFnewyorkpost

Excerpt - New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed the real story behind a 2005 meeting with Vladimir Putin, during which the Russian president pocketed his Super Bowl ring, worth more than $25,000. Kraft, at the time, claimed the diamond-encrusted bauble was a gift, but he now admits Putin stole it, and the White House intervened when he demanded it back.

Kraft explained the incident happened while Sandy Weill and other business execs were in St. Petersburg. “I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring,’ ” Kraft told the crowd at Carnegie Hall’s Medal of Excellence gala at the Waldorf-Astoria.“I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”

    .................

ALSO, and As a side note: I believe the visit of the American businessmen to Russia in 2005 is tangentally connected to the story of Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Story here: "The wrath of Putin"

KGB guys? That must be where Kraft got the Spygate idea. Maybe the ring wasn't the Pats' to begin with.

The Patriots Super Bowl ring did belong to Kraft; there is no doubt about that: but, what Putin wants - Putin takes. The irony would have been all the more rich if it were a Super Bowl ring won by the Pittsburg 'Steelers'..... Another news item on the story here: a better report IMHO. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/...094244873.html

As an aside: I am curious about the timing of this event, which happened at the same time Khodorkovsky was framed and inprisioned by Putin. Maybe this thread name should be changed to 'Putin stole my freedom' and dedicate it to Mikhail Kordorkovsky.

PS - I think this thread may have some longevity if we also introduce the MK story. Anyone with interest in the topic 'please chime in'.
